question about win 7 activation

Post by VidmanII »

I recently built a system for a guy using a full version of win 7 home premium 64 bit. The guy got laid off and backed out of the sale. Can I put that OS/key on another rig if I remove it from that one? Sadly, I already activated it in anticipation of the sale going thru.

Bottom line: Yes. You may get an activation failure and have to call Microsoft, although they usually allow you two activations. It will probably be an automated call but if you have to talk to someone just say that you built a new PC, installed the OS but the mobo was bad and you had to pull the mobo and install a different one. Should be no problem.
