I think Microsoft needs to acknowledge and understand it has two different set of users. Though with touchscreens who enjoy the new interface and others who don't. You should be able to flop back and forth between the two as easy as it would be to change a theme.
When all else fails, replace the user.

The "shit" ones were just a way for MS to get people to beta test.

Back then there was a Home, Server and Workstation edition of windows. Win2K was a workstation edition.

Unlike Win3.x, 95, 98 & Me which were not really OSes - just GUI shells running on top of DOS, Win2K was a true operating system and supported 32 bit instructions (like it's predecessor, Win NT Workstation).

Most of us who were techies were already running NT Workstation instead of 98.

The nice thing about Win2000 was that it finally had decent graphics card support.
