I'm looking for some software, free is best, that I can take a video and strip out the music that was added to it.

The video is a custom video, not a movie, that a friend of mine created a few years back about a dune buggy he built. The music he added was so so. I want to be able to take out the music and insert my music to the video clip.

It can be Windows software or Linux software.

Do you want to remove the entire audio track, or just the music leaving the rest of the audio?

First is easy with any video editor. Selectively removing music is pretty much impossible.

Not a lot of options for free editors because of codec licenses, but here's some options:

One of the most complete free editors with a ton of features is Davinci Resolve. They have a free and paid versions, but 99% of what most folk want to do is in the free version.

Resolve is way overkill for that then. ANy of the free opensource ones will do that quickly.

media converter and muxer is a addon for firefox that can both strip and replace audio or video.

There's also Windows Movie Maker.
