Disabling Zombieload & Fallout (MDS vulnerability) mitigations

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Zombieland and Fallout are similar side-channel exploits to Spectre and Meltdown. Microsoft released patches and microcode to address these new problems, but like Spectre & Meltdown they really don't matter to the average home user. It's more of a concern for Servers running multiple VMs. You don't want malware installed on one VM to be able to read private data running in another VM.

My advise is, unless you're running VMs, disable it to avoid a performance hit.

There's lengthy instructions here on how to modify the registry: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... ilities-in

But all you actually have to do it use GRC's InSpectre utility. If you disable the Meltdown and Spectre mitigations using the InSpectre utility, it sets the registry to also disable MDS vulnerability mitigation. Reboot after using InSpectre. I've confirmed that on my workstation.
