I like the combination of Windows Defender with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes always has specials going on. 1 device is $24 now, 5 devices is 60. It's not free, but not horrible pricing either.

Like Psypher said.

If you're running Windows 10, it has Defender built in (and if you're running Win7, which you shouldn't be, you can still use Security Essentials - it's still supported), and honestly that's all you need. It gets high marks lately, and unlike a 3rd party AV app, it doesn't have to hack the OS to do it's job. If you feel you need a bit more protection (like maybe the hubby likes to click on links in emails and you can't stop him) then yeah, Malwarebytes Premium on top of that and you're good.

There is not a single "free" AV I would trust anymore. They've all become a cesspool of false advertising, inflated or even outright false claims, and questionable ties with 3rd parties personal data companies.

( on tablet now ), but earlier today I was on laptop, and tried to uninstall AVG.
No success.

Went to control panel, add/remove, highlighted program, clicked Uninstall, waited 1/2-hr, and it didn't uninstall. ( should've been long enough? ).

I googled a bit,,, seems many have problems trying to uninstall, even using AVG Removal Tool ( which I didn't yet attempt ).
