Office 2003 on Win 10

Post by Executioner »

Anyone running Office 2003 on Windows 10? I tried and installed Office 2007, but I kept getting a validation error in the Windows update app which would not go away, even after removing Office 2007 and rebooting. The "check for updates" button was gone and only the validation prompt was there which does not work. So I'm curious if Office 2003 would work. I guess I should also turn off the option for "update other MS software".

I'm using Office 2003 (the - cough, cough - corporate version) under Win10 with no problems. Not sure about 2007.

I will strongly recommend you install these updates after installing Office 2003 to fully update it to Service Pack 3, fix some major security holes, and add support for the post 2007 Office file formats (one adds support for Microsoft Works Format files, which you can ignore if you don't need that). You can download them from my server here:
https://www.soldcentralfl.com/bob/tools ... d.Patches/

They are numbered and should be installed in this order.

1.Office 2003 SP3 KB923618-FullFile-ENU.exe
2.Office 2003 KB2289187-FullFile-ENU-Nov-2010.exe
3.Office 2007 Compatibility Pack Jan 2010 (adds 2007 file format to 2003).exe
4.Office 2003 File Validation Add-in (KB2501584).exe
5.Office2003-KB907417-FullFile-ENU.exe
6.Office 2003 Works Converter.exe

Also I STRONGLY recommend you disable macros in Word and Excel for security reasons (prevents malicious macros from running executables):

Tools -> Options -> "Security" tab -> "Macro Security" button -> Security Level = Very High
"Turns out I’m 'woke.' All along, I thought I was just compassionate, kind, and good at history. "

After some time, I decided to install LibreOffice, but I may install it if I don't like LibreOffice. I currently have Office 2010 installed on a VM (VirtualBox) running Windows 7 with Malwearbytes version 1.x. It sill gets updates to the latest virus definitions, but I keep it running version 1. Some of the reading suggested running it in a VM, so I tried it and it does work.
