Well then Mac OS is spyware (and IoS and Android for that matter). It's phoning home a lot, yes, because like Mac OS it now does a lot of things in the same way as your phone (push notifications, etc). No, it's not a pure OS like XP was. Vista and Win7 started getting more of these phone home features, and 10 and 11 do it more.

You can block all that so I'm not too bothered by it.

What is your solution to block it? Will Shutup10/11 do it?

Shutup works. I personally use Spybot Anyi Beacon.
