Interesting. I like the packing material inside the boutique PCs to keep the graphics card and cooler from flying loose in shipment. Gonna remember that next time I ship a PC to someone.

Early in my IT career, after I found the CPU cooler for a new Dell server floating around loose inside, I have always made it a point to open the case on a new PC and check for shipping damage before firing it up.

I had a client one time receive a server that, even though the shipping box showed no damage, the interior of the PC was totally destroyed. The drives had torn loose, the CPU cooler was loose, the mobo was cracked, and the case was bent. I've never seen anything like it. I can only assume it fell from a very large height on a flat side of the box. BTW Dell support was VERY nice. Because of scheduling issues it was past the 30 day return period when I got to the client's office to unbox the server, but I explained the situation and they sent a replacement 2 day air. I've always gotten good support from Dell Business division (home division, not so much).

Dell double charged them for the extended warranty, that they declined when the system was ordered.

Dell is VERY aggressive about pushing their extended warranties. Because I ordered PCs for my clients using one of my own emails, I constantly get reminders from Dell that the initial factory warranty is expiring, and do I want to buy an extended warranty. And if I don't reply in 30 days then they offer a discount on the extended warranty. Like clockwork. They're like Best Buy in that regard. Most people never use an extended warranty (mainly because they forget they have one) and it's money in the bank for them.

Try not to cringe at her method of checking the components are secure.
