hard drive DOA?
hard drive DOA?
puttin in a new HDD for this guy's work system (60 GB Barracuda IV).......go to boot from Norton Ghost floppy, and no drive detected. i set the jumper correctly, and even put it in my system and checked for it in the BIOS, and it just does not show up. am i missing something or is this thing DOA?
It rarely happens but it does happen, DOA, even HDDs with a quality packaging like the SeaShell.
You tested it in 2 different systems and it wasn't detected in the BIOS = not a good sign. It is an IDE drive, so pretty much plug&play (unlike SCSI with termination and stuff). Does it at least spin up?
Well, that is not really important. It is a new drive, so go for a quick exchange for a replacement drive.

PHREID; You said it's not detected in Ghost, but does BIOS detect it?
I've had situations where Ghost won't see it for a variety of reasons, but the drive is detected in BIOS.
If BIOS sees it it's probably not DOA.
Make sure it's jumpered right - not sure about Seagate but WDC drives have a DIFFERENT jumper setting for single master, and master with slave. The drive may or may not be detected by BIOS if improperly jumpered, but Ghost definately won't see it.
