Medal Of Honor Single Player Experience

Post by Busby »

Wow, it is better than Wolfenstein for sure. I've only gotten through the first mission but it sure is fun. I'm having a blast. Loving the graphics and such. I acquired the copy from Newsgroups just because I couldn't wait :) I will buy this one for sure!! It still looks as though Gamespy Arcade is required for internet play (as it asks u at the install if u wanna install it). It's on 2 CDs. It'll be worth the cost IMO.

Same here. I'm definately buying it (and those of you who may not want to pay, keep in mind the Warez version will only work in single player. Like Quake3 and RTCW, you need a valid CD key to play online and this game is gonna ROCK online).

Game looks great. Only just started the first mission, but it's blowing me away.

I am upset that the game doesn't work on a dual monitor system at all, though :(

*** CORRECTION: It DOES work fine if you just disable the 2nd monitor in display properties!!!! ***

Readme says it won't work on a dual monitor system unless you disable the 2nd display.

HOWEVER, even disabling the 2nd card in Win2K won't allow the game to work - of all things I get a 3Dfx Glide not found error even though there's no 3Dfx card installed. Still experimenting but for now I'm just playing in my Win98 boot.

Fair warning, this game is a BIG install. 1.2 Gb. Make room.

Gamespy Arcade sucks. BAH!!! I'll use Gamespy 3D.

Played some more tonight. Gotta love storming the beach :) I'm still really impressed by the gameplay. It is a fast pace but yet not fast like Quake 3. After playing it more, even on Easy difficulty, it is NOTHING like RtCW. I'd barely get killed in RtCW while in MoH I get killed all the time (or at least on the beach level). As I did with RtCW, I downloaded the warez version to play single player and purchased the game from the store for the online experience. Prolly will wait a few weeks till it goes on sale however.

It's out at the end of the month.

I'm playing it on hard since I really enjoyed playing the single player demo on hard. I lost nearly everyone in the first mission so now I'm going to replay it with the intention of saving as many of my men as possible.

The game is immersive as hell.

Meanwhile I'm getting rapidly tired with RTCW single player. I'm up to the cyborg boss at the end of the secret X Labs map.

I HATE BOSSES!!!! Bosses SUCK. I mean really, I got much more satisfaction out of trying to survive the maps where dozens of baddies are coming down on me and I had to skulk around for cover. Like the rocket plane map with all the paratroopers. Now THAT was cool.

But a friggin' retro ala-Doom BOSS level in an open arena? Oh please. Surely we've come farther than THAT in 3D gaming?

Yeah he was tough, you face like 3 more too (at the end) :) I trapped him in the room thingy and used his panzerfaust against himself, threw grenades and hit with machine gun, took quite awhile.

I'm not sure what happened, butt he reason MOHAA wasn't working in my Win2K boot was because somehow my drivers got corrupted and I lost the ability to run OpenGL (this was right after installing MOHAA so I'm suspicious).

I re-installed the Det drivers and it works fine now, even if you have dual monitors IF you disable the 2nd display in display properties.

Yeah Moh:aa just kicks serious ass. I am about 5 missions in for the second time, but this time I am taking the Hard level. And it is friggin hard. There is no doubt that I will be buying this game on Thursday when it hits the stores here.

BTW, multiplayer for the warez DOES work, you just have to connect by ip. Granted, you won't be able to access the public servers, but lan with work just fine. But you know what? I would buy this game even if I _didn't_ need a cd key. It is very much worth the $$.

Ya, these guys deserve the bucks for a game well done.

My only gripe is the lack of mission continuity. Half-Life set the standard for seemless transitions between levels - why the hell can't anyone else do it?

The AI is sometimes weak, but usually gives you a run for your money - especially on the hard setting.

Other than that, it's great.

The mission where you get driven around the airfield in a jeep while you spray fire from the machine gun mounted in the rear is a wild hairy ride :)

I couldn't agree more. Not only that, but the story for HL was contained fully within the game, not in mission briefings and letter screens. I really wish that this would become the norm instead of the outstanding feature of one game.

Spent almost 7 hours straight on this damn game last night/this morning :) Picked it up at WalMart for 40 bucks. Most fun I've had with a game since HalfLife I think. The D-Day Mission is amazing, had me sweating "bullets" :D

Walmart's got it? Cool. That's all we've got around here. DYING to play this game online.

I'm just past the mission where you attack the airbase using the machine gun in the jeep. Damn, that's tough on the hard level, but very satisfiying. It's a blast getting driven around and shooting up the base.

Looks like MOHAA beat out Duke Nukem Forever on vehicle shootouts (is that friggin game EVER going to be finished?)... :)

Did you guys notice a cute little thing about oil drums? Unlike other games, the oil drums actually have a liquid level in it. Shoot a fuel drum high and it drains out only to that level, shoot it again lower and more comes out down to that level. Shoot the drum low to start with and it all spills out until it's empty.

Nice little touch. I remember being a bit disappointed in Max Payne that there was no physics to liquid containers (like water cooler bottles). If you shot a water cooler in Max Payne, it didn't matter where you hit it, it would all drain out. It was just a simple toggled scripted event.

I highly recommend playing the game on Hard if you're an experienced FPS player. Unlike most FPS games, Hard doesn't feel like you're being cheated. It's definately harder, but it's fair and very satisfying. For instance a single shot to the face kills, but a helmet shot will usually knock off the helmet and wound and daze him for a while and you need to finish them off before they gather their wits. One or two good chest shots usually kills as well, depending on the weapon. Pistol is almost worthless in Hard though, although pistol whipping works fine.

There's plenty of first aid kits at the hard difficulty level, the big difference being that dead Germans don't drop ammo packs.

BTW: Add this command line to the end of your MOHAA shortcut to bypass the opening credits and video:

+set developer "1"

Takes you right to main menu with the console pulled down.

And the blood patch for the Demo games works fine on the retail version. Just rename the file pak9.pak so that it won't get overwritten anytiem soon if they release any patches with new PAK files.

You know I'm not into gore in particular but the suspension of believe is difficult without blood. There's also no good feedback to let you know you hit them without it.

It doesn't have to be major blood splatters on the wall like in DOD or CS, but SOMETHING. The patch helps though.

Anyone wanna sell MOHAA yet? I am going to finish Max Payne first... ;)

FP: I noticed that!! On the demo multi level, i loved shooting the barrels, they actually emptied! I love that, very cool! I also DID notice it wasn't in Max Payne.. ;)

I want to mod my case first (IF SOMEONE WOULD GIVE ME IDEAS!! :P http://pcabusers.net/forums/showthread. ... adid=16024) After that, this will be the first game on my list.. :D

I know my system aint the fastest, but MOH seems to have some major lags even when I am running at 640x480 with all the details set to medium or lower.

P3 700@933
512mb PC133
WinXP
GF2 32mb

Looks like a good reason to upgrade to a GF3. If I only upgraded my video card to a GF3, and didn't upgrade anything else, could I tell a big difference?

What system are you running it on, FP and others?

I am trying the demo on a similar system (P3 700E, GTS, 256 PC100), but a 1024x768, 32 bit, full textures and every single option there. It looks pretty good, but it's choppy enough to make me lose my lunch.
