Wanna drill the heck out of my case !! Where is best for cooling ?

Dear abusers,

I need to cool my case, as my CPU warms things a lot inside my case (cdroms come out too hot after playing them).

So where in the case should I drill holes:

I imagine it should be at the top of the sides, so hot air should "drain" up faster?

Not on the top of the case so dust doesn´t gather.

I should think holes at localized spots rather than holes all over would be better to insure a stronger flow ?

Should I cut some of the slats in the case in front of the fan outlet ?

Would this upset some preset dynamic flow status to worse instead of better ?.

Shold I rip the damn thing apart, uh ?!

Put a blowhole in the top of the case and stick an 80mm case fan in it blowing air out of the case.

in addition to that annd these:

cut out all grills on your fan in and out vents

place cables in more out of the air flow areas

gut an 80mm hole behind the cpu on the Mboard tray and a 60mm one on that side panel and place a slim 60mm fan there

If that isnt enough you can put a hole at the bottom blowing In.

a better PS is also an option, like an enermax or antec dual fan.

Dual 120mm fans mounted on the side panel directly over the AGP/PCI bus will give you all the flow you need if you have a sufficiently-sized blowhole to exhaust the the air......

A good 80 in the front and a a blow hole sucking out in the back should be all you need. The psu will suck some air out of the case an addition fan below the PSU will pull cool air from the front intake and pull it across the cpu and take hot air away from the cpu. I've 2 80's in the front and 2 in the rear and my case temp is 71F which is room temp!

2> 80mm fans don't pull enough air to do adequate cooling even with two of them to exhaust; you need 30x a minute air exchange rate inside the case to keep it at ambient temps....You need to test your probes to be sure they are calibrated correctly.....

And who made you the fan expert? I've got 4 Sunon 34 cfm fans... That in terms moves 68 CFM of air through my case with 2 intake and 2 exhaust. Oh and that don't include the PSU fan which moves about 30CFM of air... My thermostat on the wall is set at 72 degree F and i'll be damned but my case reads the temp inside of it at 71... HMMM My bird right now runs cooler inside this Chieftec 1030B than it did in my other case and it had 1 80 intake 2 120 intakes and 80 out a 92 out and the psu blowing out... So don't tell me my temps are off when you have no clue...

and it always depends on the inside of the case and what you have running in there. I know my antec 830 is better then my earlier case but it still ant perfect. done soem moding to it and so on. Computers are strange that way. you can have the same setup as someone else and yours runs hotter or cooler or what ever. things are jsut different.

My, My, what a temper.....I've been an expert in fluid dynamics for over 20 years; air is fluid so it's within my scope of education. I still believe your temps are off, irregardless of what the thermostat on the wall says. I have two case fans that move 280CFM and 8 thermal sensors inside the case that verify my temps. But I'm not going to argue with a person who obviously has a tremendous advantage over me in terms of airflow and cooling experience so be content that you have the most awesome air-cooling system around and I am at the feet of the Master.

Wow your special... I shall get on my knee's and pray to the god of cooling...lol I never said anywhere that i had the most awesome cooled case... I know what my temp probes tell me. Would you like me to pull the probe i have dangling in there and put it in some ice water... Which should be 32 degree's f and calibrate it for you the all high and might cooling god... While i'm at it i'll pull the one out of my senfu and calibrate that one too. I've got all rounded cable and all power wires are routed and tied off so there is minimal restriction in the air flow inside of my case. Go blow your shit elsewhere and while your at it take your "expert in fluid dynamics" BS and stuff it where the sun don't shine. I don't need to be an expert show me what the temps are inside of my case and how much airflow i have going through it... Simple math can tell me that. Oh wait i just pulled the thermomitor i had sat about a foot from my case and i'll be damned but the air temp by it is 72F shit i guess my thermostat on the wall must be working correctly... Oh but what i guess that thermomitor must not be reading correctly so back to my glass of ice water i will go to be sure.... I've got a very mild temper i've just got a lot of attitude and you really rubbed me the wrong way with that post... I always say whats on my mind and what i think and always will ya don't like it don't reply.

With all due respect, DSMF, anyone who needs 280CFM to cool a standard computer case might wanna reevaluate their in-case airflow. Around here you'll find very few fluid dynamics engineers, and many people who simply know what works.

Personally, I'm moving about 80cfm thru my SX830, and I'm happy with the results. It isn't of interest to anyone besides me how I measure happiness.

Yeah to me 280CFM sound like WAY overkill... Need a 500 Watt supply to power those fans as they'd have to eat up a good amount of juice. Sound like someone is lookin' for bragging rights to me... One thing i can stand to sit next to my computer... Its nice and quiet and Cool!
