I think some states decide alimony based on the years married and the incomes of each spouse.

I believe here in my state that unless the marriage has lasted at least ten years, there's not a good chance of it being awarded. But you should ask an attorney just to be sure.

Though I can't really say much from experience since I've only been married twice but never divorced.

hey dude, sorry for your trouble but that's the way it ends up sometimes :(

act like a gent about it so you have no regrets about your behavior when it's done, and get a good lawyer to watch your back - make it a clean deal, then take as much time as you need before getting involved with anyone else

good luck

Also very sorry to hear about your breakup. I am one year out from my 10 yr. first marriage. Here is my advice...

If you can get her to agree to it and providing you both can be fair, use one attorney and just draw out all the particulars between you and her. It makes it much easier that way and saves you both money by just using 1 attorney. Be strong and fair, just because she is the female gives her no right (with or without a child) to make away with everything. Both of you have worked to make that life, so you should split it. Avoid getting with any other women until after your divorce is final (if you are already, then NEVER let her get wind of it). Maybe with a little luck yours will turn out like mine, which took only 31 days from start to finish (and we both came out good).

And just for anyone wondering, she re-thought her position and we have been together for almost 1 year now and she and my baby boy live here with me.

Hope I could help,

Nut

Once here. Do as others have said, theres good advice. One thing I haven't seen mentioned is auto insurance. make sure you get a new policy. I completey forgot about it, the ex cancelled it and I was driving without insurance for about 2 months before I realized it. When I wnet ot get insurance I was put on high risk because I ahd let it lapse. I paid about twice the going rate because of that mistake. I was also advised to take out an add in the local paper stating that I was not responsible for debts other than my own.

Good Luck and keep your head.

Yo Will ! So sorry to hear about that. If ya need anything, drop me a line as us NJ guyz have to stick together! :) wvjohn has the best advice tho, get a barracuda and let him handle the dirty work. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Old cliche but oh so true! Protect your interests.

Not for nuthin' but I've met Will in person and he's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

As for me, I'm still on my 1st go 'round here. 15th anniversary comin' up. :) I waited until I was 33 before I got married so I think that helped.

Thanks for all the advice and kind words; PCA is the best! :) I should've waited longer before I got married Vid. But heck, I was 23 and I knew everything! lol She really is a great girl, I wish I could change my mind as to how I feel (I've tried for about 3 years now). It kills me to see her in this much pain. I just can't keep stringing her along, as she really deserves so much more than what I can give her (emotionally anyway). I just can't work through this while we are living together and it doesn't look like she wants to work it out if we're separated. That’s where we are really butting heads. :(

Give it time, give her some space and maybe it will work itself out. A good friend of mine who was married for 6 years was informed by his wife that she wanted a divorce. They got it. Three years after the divorce they were married again. That was five years ago and now they have one the strongest maraiges I've seen. You never know 'til you you know, you know!
