Picked up a P4 today...

Post by PreDatoR »

A buddy wants me to build him a system in a couple weeks when he gets tis big check he's suppose to get. So i preordered a fewthings for it... Its a sure thing so i figured i would just get the MB and CPU now. Picked up a P4 1.6a that the guy ran at 2.4 for 120 bucks and ordered a Epox 4BDA i845 DDR board. Read some reviews on this board and all i can say is wow. 110 shipped at Mwave 3 day. Has nice OC features Vcore Vmem adjustments and the best of all after 117 FSB it locks the PCI/AGP bus at 33/66 no matter how much higher you takethe FSB. Another nice feature of it that a lot of P4 boards are lacking is that the mem ratio is 3:4 so if i'm running the FSB at 150 FSB 300 DDR the mem speed will actually be running 200/400. Of course i'll need some good ram to accomplish this so i ordered myself 512 MEg stick of PC2700 Samsung as this kingmax i have i a joke as far as i'm concerned. It don't take very aggressive timings at all at 151 on my XP333 and this is suppose to be PC2700 ram... Yeah seems like pc2100 remarked to me. But anyways i'm settin' my D partition up for hte intel and keepin' my C intact for my AMD so when i switch back. Gonna be doing a bunch of benchmarks stock vs stock and OC'd and all too see how well the ystack up with each other. Should be interesting once i get it here. I know lately there's been a lot of P4 hype so i figured this would be a good way to test it out... probably be a couple weeks before i have all the testing done but i plan on makin' a small webpage with my findings.

Predator,

Make sure to let us know if that Samsung RAM will run the 3:4 memory setting with the FSB above 133. I have the Asus P4B266-C which allows you to use the 3:4 memory setting up to 132 FSB.

I purchased a 256 MB stick of Crucial PC2100 RAM and Windows won't boot with the FSB at 132 and the memory set at 3:4. I've increased the RAM voltage from 2.5 to 2.7 and it still won't boot.

I'm gonna order another 256 MB stick of RAM to try so if the Samsung works on your board I'll give it a try. I don't think I can use PC2700 RAM with this Asus, but their PC2100 should be pretty good also.

Thanks.

If your board take DDR is should take PC2700 no problem. I recommend the Samsung seen some benches and it is by far the fastest ram and TRUE PC2700 none of this remarked stuff. at amdmb.com forums there are guys running the samsung on the XP333's at FAST setting for ram at 200-205 FSB. I'll let ya know how th board goes but from my understanding the Epox is one of the few i845 boards that allows you to use the 3:4 above 133. I was gonna go with the P4b266-c for this system but seen after 132 it don't kick in anymore.

http://www.memplus.com/Merchant2/mercha ... de=DDR2700

Go here. Don't know what kind of a rep this place has. Ask Vidman he ordered some from there.

68 for 256 PC2700 Samsung
130 for 512 PC2700 Samsung

Shipping for 1 stick is 11 bucks though kinda high but still cheaper than newegg. 2 stick i think was 12 bucks when i checked.
