Start with the silicon (mineral silica) and how it evolved into chips, etc.

The best thing to talk about is what DaMaN said about silicon. The fact it is a semi-conductor and how at certain temperatures it is an insulator and certain temperatures it is a conductor and also why it is used and such. Im sure you can find plenty of info online about it, just be careful when searching for silicon at school....might be a little dangerous search topic.
