Greg, I'm curious--

Where did you happen to find the aluminum case? And what sort is it?

This is one place that happens to sell this particular variety of case...plenty of finish options too-

Even if it's not aluminum per se, I suppose it's not bad at $59.99...I guess.

As for the LAN in August, I'll let ya know what's happening around that time.

Later, and thanks for the heads up!

Greg,
WOW, you have inspired me to make one of my own. I have also created a website to document my progress: ninjacroc briefcase I just threw it together, so most of the site doesn't work, but this page should be fine.

Question, what do you plan to do with the hacked PSU? Will it go next to the CD-ROM? Are you going to leave it "exposed"? My gut reaction is that a PSU should be encased in metal, but I lack the basic electronics knowledge to come up with a reason for that.

Glad to hear it. Its FUN stuff.

Yea, the PS is going to be near the cdrom/hd. I dont see a readon for it to not be exposed so thats just the way its going to be. :) Plus I would have had to buy a slim PS if I wanted it to fit in there with my Monitor AND it looks neeter this way, oh and I didnt want its fan i nthe system eithor so I got rid of that also by doing this.

Welp, I decided to get one of these cases myself, here's where I got it from:

http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item. ... ID=1032534

I'm not sure if there'll be clearance for the one LCD I've got, which is 10.3", VGA...only 640x480.

Looking at EarthLCD, there's one model of screen I'm waiting to find out if it'll connect direct to VGA or not--only about 1.5"-2" thick, and it'll do 1024x768...might or might not have problems with ghosting, hopefully I'll find that out too, soon

specs for what I'm planning to put into it:

Asus CUSL2-M (mATX, actually has VCORE adjustments.)
Matrox Millenium G450 (Dualhead)
probably 256mb memory minimum
low profile 10/100 NIC
onboard sound (for now)
either a PIII 600 or 700...I know either of the ones I've got will go @133FSB without a hitch
Pioneer 16X slotload DVD
? GB HDD (I've got a couple laying around...)
10.3" Planar VGA LCD (640x480, ya I know...but it's meant more for use as a 2nd monitor/stats screen)

(edit) either a normal ATX P/S, or maybe even a 1U (Slim) P/S..300 should do fine for this, and as many fans as I can add in without going overboard (/edit)

I think I'll end up placing the mobo standoffs as though I'm going to put in a full ATX mobo...never know if I might want to later upgrade. :)

I'd thought about NForce as a possibility, AMD gets warm enough as it is though, don't need to push the envelope by putting it in a small space, don't get started with o/cing it LOL

but, this is mostly a WIP...

Greg, I know you'd said you felt the walls of the case were a bit thin/flimsy(?) to your liking, I'll likely reinforce the sides much the same manner--would a dremel cut through the sides for the fanholes pretty easily, though?

If the LCD doesn't fit, and I can't find a suitable (NPI) alternative, I can always just plant a plexi/lexan window in instead..

Dremel should be fine, but if U use a hole saw on a drill it makes it ALOT easier.

Fire us some Pics once you get done. :) well, once i get done also! LOL
