Questions about nVidia stuffs.....

Post by VidmanII »

Howdy, : )

Couple of questions regarding swapping out a GF3 Ti200 for a G4 TI4400. Do I need to remove the existing drivers ( nVidia WHQL Det. version 28.32 ) or will they pickup the newer card?

Also, could somebody direct me to a worthwhile nVidia tweak site/BBS please.

I'm expecting to receive my new card ( MSI G4 TI4400 VTD/ 128MB ) on WED or THU so I'd like to get a leg up on it before it gets here.

I'm excited about having one of those and a Radeon 8500 64MB in that I won't have to participate in any future video card flame wars, but rather will be able to argue with myself !! :D

(read: I'm schizophrenic..........and so am I ! ) :argue

When I went from a GF2 to the GF3 I just went into device mgr. and removed the GF2 shut down and replaced the card. Upon boot up it picked up the new card and loaded the drivers and that was it. To be honest I don't even think you need to do that. As long has both cards are Nvidia and you are using the same driver I think you can just shut down and change the card but I have never tried it so can't say for sure.

i'm pretty sure you'll need to run through the driver setup again after replacing the card - my xp system picked up and installed my new card, but it wasn't perfect, at setup it didn't even recognize it as having the right memory totals ... weird

I think I'll uninstall the drivers. reboot, shutdown, swap cards and reinstall the drivers. Prolly the best way I would think. ::

So how 'bout a good Nvidia tweak site/BBS??? Anybody?

Actually, you don't need to uninstall the driver. Just pull the card and swap it. The drivers are all in one and will detect the card properly (I've swapped between a TNT2, GF1 and GF3 on the same system without removing the driver).

Won't hurt if you remove the driver, but not necessary.

GeForceFAQ is located here: http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/faq.cgi

http://www.geforcefaq.com/ now points to another site. Apparently whoever owned the GeForceFAQ domain name let it expire and someone else grabbed it.

http://www.nvnews.net/forum/index.php is a decent Nvidia BBS. As expected there will be Nvidiots around. :o
