New piracy proof format

Post by Executioner »

LOL, so they want everyone to go out and buy this special player. Is it self contain unit with built in speakers or something with no RCA jacks for output?
'completely revolutionary' and 'stunningly clever.'

Hehe groove and needle - revolutionary - ROTFLMAO

Then a typically idiot tester:
"It's like, really big and stuff," said Doug Flamboise, one of the testers. "I couldn't get it into any of my drives. I mean, what format is it? Is it, like, from France or something?"

Ha, piracy proof, that's about as believable as God.
I'm going to say a word, and you tell me the first word that comes to mind.

You guys do know that it's a joke right?

When my son (who's now 18) was much younger, and having seen me playing mostly cds most his life as I've had them since '87, first saw my old records he thought they were "big, black cds" :)

I didn't even read the article, I just laughed at the fact something declared to be piracy proof. = \

Oh....those 12" black, grooved discs were hard to copy, no doubt. Just try scribing out those grooves by hand once ;)

FP, I STILL have many of those things BUT my stylus (an ancient device) is STILL broken from when my son moved the turntable downstairs w/o securing its tonearm. He honestly didn't know that it wasn't good for the needle to be bouncing off the platter so I didn't even get upset as I knew he couldn't have known that minor detail, after all....that's not a problem with cd players.
The grooved discs are all up the attic so if I ever motivate for a new stylus, maybe I'll bring some down to burn onto another medium (like the good ol' CDR) so that I can listen to them again (those that I havent replaced, couldn't find CDs of yet).

BUT rumored to be true, although I've never seen one, I've been told that at one time in history Chysler even made the first "12" black disc car player" :) . It obviously must have sucked but supposedly it was installed in the glovebox and played "records". I think it lasted 1 year as any turn or bump wouldn't be a good thing due to its lack of a lazer pickup or anti-skipping.
There was also even a time when they made picture discs, the whole disc was colored as a scene, they were expensive for their day and looked too good to actually play. You'ld find them at "record conventions" with other rare and exotic recordings, some bootleg recordings too which always sounded so bad that you'ld be sorry that you even bought it. I have a few of those, very nasty.
