Sexy Computer!

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Just got one of these IBM NetVista systems 2nd hand - very good deal. Company was selling several of them and didn't think they were worth much because they don't have CDs or modems (they're configured for a network and have a NIC).

Friend of mine who's also in the PC business got the rest of them.

Dang things were never used - just sat around in a storeroom for a year due to a failed project.

Celery 633, NICE 15" LCD. I like.

It's going to be for the wife (chicks dig 'em!) and I'm going to sell off her old P3-550 tower & 17" monitor.

Sexy looking thing.... :)

TUNIS: I'm sharing my server's CD drive on my home network.

It's got 128Mb but takes standard SDRam. It'll take a P3-1000 with the lastest BIOS update. Only got a 10Gb drive installed (you ready for this? It's a Maxtor - installed in an IBM computer, and as far as I know it's factory - LOL!).

SiS mobo with a P.O.S. onboard SiS video chip (forget gaming).

It has Win2K Pro installed. I'm going to throw another stick of memory in there and set it up for the wifey.

Got it for $300. Heck, a cheap 15" LCD screen alone costs that much so I couldn't resist. She's got a small desk so it'll save space.

Rather interesting how they crammed everything into this sucker. It's got a standard 3.5 HDD behind the screen somewhere. PSU and speakers in the pedestal base, a flip down compartment that pops out under the screen that has the floppy and an empty slot for a slim CD drive. No parallel or serial ports, just 3 USB's in the back and 2 in the front.

It would look sexy as hell on a cherry wood desk...

You can always attach a USB nic or a USB 802.11b wireless device to get it up on the network for internet surfing and file sharing. Perhaps you can even pick up a cheapie USB external CDROM or CDRW from ebay.

It has a built-in NIC - it was designed as a network workstation.

Yeah, I could buy a USB CD drive or I'm also told it'll take a standard slim-line CD, but there's no need for it. The wife doesn't use the CD much. I install everything, and the server is right across the room.
