LikeLinus, I like the new 'Vettes too but I didn't know they were that fast. Maybe I'll have to (somehow) get one. That's more than I'd like to pay for any car at this point in time but definately ALOT cheaper than the new turbo 911 for $110K (does 0-60 in 3.8 secs
), what's a few tenths anyways?

It's a special limited edition version. Kinda like the old ZR1's. It's a LS6 engine. The car is LIGHT...made from all aluminum basically. And it handles unreal. You really cant find them very often. My friend paid around 49k with about the only option he could get...which i dont even know what it was, i'll have to ask. But its definately a top notch sportscar. It also has cut outs around the brakes to flow cold air to the brakes to keep them cooled off...nice.

read that...very nice. MotorTrend actually got a little bit better numbers outta the car (0-60 @ 4.3 vs 4.2) but never the less, nothing out on the road will be passing you, thats for sure.

Linus: The new Vettes are awesome no doubt and probably are the best MONEY can buy but .... Fast isn't all about spending money. Like Overclocking a computer .... it's much more fun to DIY (do it yourself). With the new Vette you will never experience the thrill of poppin the hood, pullin the Valve covers and lashing the valves to gain that extra tenth. Or the thrill of re-jetting an 800 Holley Dbl Pumper cause the air temp dropped 10 degrees. Now the "Computer" does it all for you. To me it's kinda like this ... Would you rather watch your Girlfriend "Do it" with the latest hi-tech uhhh "marital aid" or would you rather be a hands on kinda guy. I always prefered gettin my "wrench" oily once in a while !!!! I don't even have a "Wrench" that fits a new Vette. (Deep symbolisim here)
Wolfman35...i agree somewhat. But the question was "whats the best and worse american cars ever made", not "Whats the best car to hot-rod up" =) If we are talking about just stock cars, that z06 vette is one bad ass kitty out of the box, stock.
But as far as getting under the hood, we do that to new cars anyway. My friend is kinda crazy though. He already has plans of upgrading the vette (it has only 2,000 miles!). He previously owned a 99 cobra and some other cobra's before that. The rear-end in his cobra he could never get right, so thats why he got a new vette. He's always wanted a 500hp car, so if he adds a super de duper charger to his vette and some other things he'll get 500 easy. It's like a damn contest around our office. 3 guys own new vettes. Another guy owns a cobra that he has his output at 425hp. It's like a "whos got the biggest d!ck" contest. lol

nexus_7,
There's been many good American cars but no, they're not all good.
There's also alot of "Junk" made elsewhere too IMHO, like some of the new ones I repair for a living everyday and made mostly in Sweden (even though they've VERY expensive).

Nexus, FYI. The Nissan Maxima is going to start being built in Smyrna, TN. as of 2003. Even the "imports" are being built in the states. Mitsubishi's are HUGE pieces of shit. Toyota's and honda's are built goood, but most are built here in the states. BMW even has a plant in Alabama now. Saturns are supposidly good, built in TN, also.
So as far as "american" cars goes, most cars are built in the states now adays anyway. There are tons of good american cars.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh true but we're going off topic being that the topic is "worst American car" not worst car. I can think of several other imports to add to the list of bad imports besides the Yugo but you're right, that tops the list of all time bad cars in the whole world from what I've seen (even though there's some close contenders there).
I've been an import auto tech for almost 21 years now and I've worked on some real, hard to believe it was EVER made (or sold, purchased) JUNK. Some of it's STILL being made today and sold for big $$$ too (and publically presumed to be a good product by some). I could write a book on that topic in itself.
