F'ing Microsoft Activation...

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Okay I bought BF 1942 and I treated myself to some extra RAM since I had some spare money and everyone says this game runs better with a lot of RAM.

So I install the new 512Mb stick and then run WordXP because I have a client who needs me to fax them something in a hurry and the F'ing thing tells me there's been a "substantial hardware change" and I have to reactivate Office XP.

WTF? I have to re-activate just because I added some RAM. WTF is that all about?

No big deal, I reactivated just fine, but it was a nuisance at that moment to go find the Office XP CD and go through the motions, especially when this Word document needed to be edited in a hurry.

Now WTF would I have done if this had happened on a lappy and I was on an airplane and didn't have my Office CD handy?

Sheesh.

Damn...I didn't know Office XP had the re-activation crap like XP. I certainly think adding RAM doesn't count as a "major hardware update".

Sheesh...I still use Office97 Pro and love it! :p

I'd personally still be using Office 97 except for the fact that Access is not forward compatible (you can't read newer Access files from an older version).

I agree, though, Office 97 does everything you need if all you use is Word and Excel. Most of my clients still use Office 97 and I tell them not to waste their money on an upgrade.

Another reason not to use XP crap. I'm still on Win98, but I plan to upgrade to win2k the next time I need to format. I'm also using Office 2k with no problems.

Ummm... why would you be installing RAM in your laptop on an airplane? ;)

I have had to reactivate twice after reinstalls and each time they ask me, are you sure you only have it installed on one PC, heh. I have added and removed quite a few things from this system but it has never made me reactivate.

Well Truck (and Tunis) what if I'd upgraded my ram before a trip, and didn't use Office until I was in the air? That would suck major time....

Yeah Office2k all the way here. No need for this XP crap. My lappy came with Lotus Smart Suite whatever that is. It has "Lotus 1-2-3" lol I remember my mom was going to school learning about that about 8 years ago. hehe. I think it was longer. I told her it came with it and shes like wow I learned that a long long time ago.
