Has anyone tried one yet and what motherboard and results did you get?
I can't remeber my password but I used to be Saturn.

Good to see ya again. Hope all is well with you.
Still stuck on axp 1700+ myself, but it can go to 1900+ speed.

How's it going? I have been working my butt off. Lots of new system design stuff. New security systems type things from Alphabet land to San Diego.
I have a 2400+ that should be here monday but I am looking at getting a 2600+ if the Overclock is good. The motherboard seems to be a hard decision. Not sure which one to try. I might go with the Abit AT7- MAX2.

OC XP2600...
I read an article in the Nov. issue of MaxPC that reviewed the new processors. And if memory serves me correctly, they said that there wasn't much room to overclock. Don't remember the exact reason, but when I find the issue, I'll post more. eGo

I'm gonna wait a little longer for the 2800 or 2700 'cause they use the 333mhz fsb- Finally..
I saw some good prices on 2400's but I'd like to wait and see what this board will do before I throw it out.I want to see the specs match real world performance before I raise hell.BTW X-Tream DDR ram
dosen't work too well on an abit At-7.So, I'll wait and see.

I have the 2400 but still no board. I decided to get the Asus A7N8X Deluxe. If when the 400A's actually get on the street their performance is worth it, I'll upgrade again.
I also wound up ordering a 2700+ I could help it.
Still need a few parts. Memory, heatsink, HD's, DVD Ram, CDRW, power supply, PCMCIA reader. Probably a few other pieces that will come to me.

Hey Saturn....
How can you get away with ordering stuff left and right? Don't you have to answer to a higher authority (your wife) like the rest of us? I'm lucky to justify a new system once a year. That also means I need to unload one system a year, so I don't increase my inventory. Please, tell us your secret, and don't just say that she's in the industry too. My wife is also an engineer, but she doesn't get into this overclocking / computer modding / constant upgrade stuff!

Ahhh,
She doesn't keep track. But the items I am getting are for a system for me to use at work and my company is paying for it. Trust me computer cycle time is a cheap way to increase productivity. The IT people and managers just leave me alone to setup how I want so I can decide how what to use. THe only problem is I have to provide my own support. Which is Ok with me but anyone else that copies my systems also asks me for support. It can be a pain but I like to oportunity to see if I can find a more efficient system.
I am going to use a Matrox Parahelia card with the system I am building to see if it has enough power for our software to be run using three monitors. I also use two monitors now and I don't play games at work so this would be the best card to have. I still have not seen anyone surpass Matrox for 2D display clarity.
I am one of 4 people at work that uses AMD CPU's in their work systems. The rest are Dell or Gateway type systems(besides workstations). If AMD had a system intergrator that was large enough to provide good support they would be on more business desktops.

Oh, that's the trick...
We're stuck using Compaq machines at work. I've managed to get administrator privledges on the laptops I use for site assessments, and a test workstation I use to test out software updates, but my hands are tied beyond that. The worst thing is that our IT lead is an idiot, and he has an ego problem to boot. You have to be nice to the guy to get what you want. He will even turn down people's request for a zip drive, and justifys that by saying they can use the network server to back up their files. He doesn't mention that he has removed files from people's machines in the past, and can't locate them later....
Sounds like you have a sweet job there Saturn!
