you guys also forgot that you need a intel pentium 4 to play music and go on the internet because it will make it faster and your digital camera will only work with a pentium 4.

thats exaclty why I converted from my celeron 1.7 to my Athlon XP 1700+ the price on a damn p4 my p4 board could take up to 2.8ghz but like hell I was gonna give intel 400bux for a 2.8ghz my 1.47ghz Athlon XP 1700+ only cost me $50 T-Bred btw I'm sure I could prolly o/c this thing to a good 1.8ghz but anywho maybe if intel changes the name of the cpu it will be worth less because what are you paying for when you buy a p4????the tech or the name that is the question!

Just to throw out another perspective...I have been using non-intel systems since 1995. My last intel CPU was a Celeron 300A...since then I have gotten buy with an AMD Duron, then an Athlon XP.

About two weeks ago, I put a system together for myself...and I am happily using a P4 2.4 GHz. AMD used to be a bang for the buck bonanza, but once you cross the 2GHz boundary, or 2000+ boundary in AMD's case, Intel works out to be the better value. In fact, it actually cost me about $150 less to put this P4 system together than it would have cost me for an AMD XP 2400+ w/the 333Mhz FSB.

My P4 has not given me any problems, it is plenty fast, and runs at a cool 35 degrees C using the included CPU (and very quiet) cooler from Intel. A 533 MHz FSB and 333 Mhz memory bus....it's tough to beat. And the stability is unmatched; it is not hit or miss like you get with overclocking. I don't play the loyalty game, and I wouldn't use AMD just because Intel is a bigger company and AMD is the "underdog" (ok, 33 years of being an underdog...come on guys, AMD is what it is :D ).

Basically, AMD was and still is anchored to the low-end/mid-range PC market along with its niche of power users and virtually no penetration into the server market (relatively). Just when you think they're gonna tear Intel a new one, they go back in to hibernation and their products go stagnant due to lack of innovation. Like I said, I am PRO nothing. If AMD comes back with a badass new processor, I'm there. But for now, I'll power my spaceship with a P4.

Well....I usually go with the better chip/better price. I went with a Retail XP2000+ and Shuttle AK32 which I got for 145. Havent had any problems. Shit I'm running almost 11000's in 3dmark 2001se. I've very satisfied. I actually sold a P4 1.7ghz laptop to buy this (had some extra dough :) ). That thing sucked. Always getting errors and shit. Not my idea of a good value. That was the last intel chip I've had since my C466 a while ago. I mean I'm not partial. I've always had good luck with AMD chips. I gave intel another shot, and they failed me. Thats all...
