MX500 kicks the shit outta my original Explorer. Though I did like the bigger feel of the explorer, this one is MUCH more accurate and although smaller, feels very nice as well. Just wish the software was better... ...it seems that sometimes the buttons don't like to work <img src=http://mywebpages.comcast.net/hipnotic_ ... es/sad.gif>

I hear that....or that it closed the item in the FORGROUND FIRST, I swear, I don't even bother enabling the "smart taskbar" with Ultramon, just seems like I do it in vein.

yea, I have a mx700 my self. dont use it much cause I just use my trackball. But when I do use it I am very happy with it.

As for mouse software, the way I look at it is if the damn thing needs software I ant using it. I never install mouse drivers, they always suck.

I was looking at the MX700 the other day. I'm a LONG time happy MS Explorer mouse user - on my 3rd one. I have a BIG hand and it fits VERY comfy.

I really couldn't care less about the wireless thing - the wire has never been a hassle, but I am tempted.

The side buttons seem a bit small to me. Any of you using them for gaming? I use the side buttons for arming 'nades and bringing up the pistol in most shooters.

I'm also concerned about the practicality of the battery:

If I forget to cradle it at night, will I have a dead battery in the morning? I'm on and off the computer all day and never turn it off.

How long will it last on a charge?

How long does it take to charge is it's dead?

with the batteries it comes with about 2 hours, but I poped in energizer rechargable ones and it takes about 3. It lasts about 3-5 days on one charge (depending on usage of course) and I just charge it over nite.

Why not gust get the MX500 save $20 and you can keep your cord? :)

it doesn't take long to charge at all.. it takes a couple hours for full charge, but hell, just slap it on for a couple min then away you go.. it's a metal hydride batt, so no memory problems..

the side button are wicked, i like them a lot more than the MS ones. I also like the shape, it just seems to fit my hand better than the explorer.. but it's personal preference. i didn't think i would like em this much when i was in the store trying it out.. didn't seem right. but now that i've gotten used to it i like it a lot more.

my only complaint is the software for it... when it's installed the scroll wheel doesn't work correctly... sometimes it scrolls, others not at all. no software the mouse works fine.. so dunno what's going on...

I've been extremely happy with my wireless Explorer. It's has a similar feel to the wired Explorer which I also like.

I've looked at the MX700 in the store but couldn't get comfortable with it. Like FP I hav large hands and the Logitech mice just feel to small to me.

I'm using the rechargeables in my Explorer as well. I picked up an Everyready recharger with eight batteries at Sam's for about $20. It does a full recharge on four batteries in about 12 to 14 hours. They now carry one that does a full charge in one hour and come with both an AC and car adapter for $28. :)
