Forgotten Windows Password......HELP!

Hello all,

My 10 yr. old daughter has her own computer with Windows XP os. Well..........it seems she found how to add a password at windows startup. The trouble is that she has forgotten what it is! She did write in a hint but it doesn't help. We have tried everything we can think.

If anyone has any idea how to retrieve the password to avoid a reformat......it would be most appreciated.
