I just got my system to 200*11 and got 10,440 3dmarks with my Radeon 8500 at default speeds!

THIS IS FUN!!!

I plan on getting it to 2.4 ghz. I currently have 1.725v going into it, it wouldn't finish 3dmark at 1.7v. I think I really need a new PSU.

Maybe it is just my luck... but... I have cheap as RAM, no name brand PC2100, and i have memory timings at 5-2-2-2 and it is solid as a rock. I use all the default voltages and everything.

You mean 3Dmark 2001 right!?!? That one 3Dmark2003 would be a record, especially with old video card.

YES!! Definately 01..

I'm using Corsair PC3200LLPT. What REALLY sucks though is that I guess I got lucky with that 3dmark score. For some REALLY odd reason, 3dmark won't finish unless I am sitting in front of the computer. If I walk away, it kicks me out. I am pretty positive it's because of my 5v rail. It lingers around 4.81v during load and only makes it to 4.92 while idle. the 3v rail goes down to 3.31v during load as well, and the 12v rail is below 12 too. Even if these are "not very accurate" readings, it still shows that the voltages are all a bit lower than they should be. I think part of the reason is that I have 4 92mm fans running full speed, and I have ym ram at 2.8v and my processor at 1.725v. However, even when it was at 1.6, it still was low. YesMicro has an awesome deal on the True 480, which were sold out already when i found them. They are also one of the Reseller Ratings top ranked resellers! They still had 1 trueblue 480 left in stock, but I don't really want a trueblue 480, cause the LED's might get annoying because I can't turn em off.

I may also try lowering my latency settings, I have left them at 2,2,2,6 for now.

I'm too stubborn, but I think lowering them and getting a higher FSB helps more than keeping them low.

There are way too many settings to play with.

Ok, I just tried it again, and it seems that the Nature test is what is causing the problem, at least when I'm here. If 3dmark is kicking me out, is that a power related issue?

The leds from the trueblue really aren't annoying at all, at least to me. The one from the bottom fan just puts a light blue glow on the heatsink and mobo, very faint. The rear led will make the wall behind it glow blue too. If that is annoying, then the non-led one is best for ya.

But I like it.

Hard to be sure what's causing the kick out. Could just be 3dmark or that part got corrupted. Could also be psu related, but if that's the only time you have a problem, why spend da moola when you don't need to.

I'll see what comes up. If they end up getting more back before the deal is gone, I'll probably buy one.

The reason I'm worried about the true blue is because the computer will be in my room, and my fanbus lights it up enough, I don't need more light. But, i MAY consider it.

Also, don't try 10x or 10.5 x multipliers. The A7N8X HATES THEM. i boot fine at 200x11 and 200x9.5, but it wouldn't boot at 200x10 OR 200x10.5... Really weird. I am just lowering the multiplyer more to see what kind of FSB I can get.

I'm running memtest86 right now at 205x12 at 1.8v

No errors and its almost done with the 6th test. I'll probably be backing it back down to 205x11.5 at 1.7v if I can.

It's running too hot for my tastes.

Unfortunately, i can't get my ram doing a lot more. I'm going to buy some TwinMOS CH-5 to see how they OC. I'd like to get to at least 220 with reallt tight timings. To get 205 stable, i had to do 2,3,3,7... I'll probably bump them all down one again, and see if I can do 2,2,2,6.

I might even try getting this to 2.5 ghz, since I'm at 2465mhz right now.

For you Nforce2 people, this TwinMOS / Winbond CH-5 PC3200 appears to be memory that is producing the some of the highest FSB speeds. I've been roaming around the web for two weeks or so researching stuff for my upgrade ( see sig below ) and 2 x 256MB sticks of this stuff seems to get very good results when OCing and running in dual channel. They also come in 512MB flavor if you want to do 2 x 512MB. Word is tho that single singled sided 256's will more often than not give you better OCing results.

I took a shot and ordered two 256's from this vendor and was quite pleased with their service.$ 8 bux for Airborne 2-day. They have a nice warranty too. My cpu, mobo, and fan/hs arrive today. I'll post back here with some results once I get the "Jersey Devil III" back up and in action.

NOTE: The 2-day airborne lists as $12 bux on the product page but when you check out it shows and bills as $8. It came by Fedex and not Airborne. Worked for me.

What is the difference between A7N8X Deluxe and A7N8X?

A7N8X Deluxe has serial ATA, RAID, Dual-LANs, IEEE 1394 and Post Reporter function while A7N8X doesn't.

I thought the sound may be a little different since under the deluxe version they say "soundstorm" and "w/built in amplifier, integrated APU (Audio Processor Unit), Soundstorm Encoder", while they don't for the non deluxe.

By the way, I got my computer 100% stable at 200x11.5 using 1.75v. It wasn't stable at 205x1.5 using 1.75v (that's what I meant above). At 1.775v it got a bit further in Prime 95, but quit within 5 minutes. So, 2.3 GHz will do until I have enough cooling to boost the core voltage past 1.8v

Damn nice overclock though. This new system is more than twice as fast as my last one.

Also, the following led to a 3Dmark01 score of 10591. Not bad.

After 2nd boot I tried 11x200. I couldn't help it.

Booted fine and all seemed well, but back to default for loading everything. Then tried 12x200, all seemed ok. Tried 12.5x185. Now at 11.5x190. Will go higher later.

But anything I've tried so far, this puppy hasn't even hiccuped. Using mushkin 3200. Running f@h the temp is 34-37c, depending on room temp.

Booted up at first np, so I formatted. I was expecting a major pain from reading various horror stories around the net. This was one of the easiest installs I have had.
