i need help!! please help

ok, i am having a big problem. I have an abit nf7-s motherboard and i just bought a used antec case today. I hooked everything up and turned it on. I started to boot for like 2 seconds then shut down and began to beep. I have tried pretty much everything to fix it, and nothing works. If you have any suggestions please help me out.

Matt,

From the limited info, sounds like a grounding problem. Take everything out of the case to include the motherboard, and reinstall. Also check the memory and vid cards to ensure they are seated properly and tight.

what kind of beeps are they?
did you get a book with your mobo that describes what the beeps mean?

try checking out the website (abit) to see if they got any information

Make sure the CPU is seated correctly
same with the ram

Make sure there are no loose screws or anything in the case that would cause a short

i have taken everything out and put it back in 3 times, with different sets of spacers. what other info do you need, i will be happy to tell you

have you tryed switching the case to motherboard leads around -or a diffrent power supply !

Try to reinstall the cpu. And reseat the video card, try just one stick of ram in another slot.

Are you getting some power, like the fans and lights coming on, or just the beep?

I get that problem a lot, you just need to narrow it down.

everything gets power for like 2 seconds then it all turns off and the beeping starts. I also cleaned the old thermal past off the cpu with a slightly moist towel then dried it off right away, could that have something to do with it? and what do you mean a bout switch the case to motherboard leads

What I would do is pull the mobo out (yeah again) and place it on a piece of cardboard. Connect only the ram, video card, and power supply. You don't need a drive for it to boot to the bios. Using a small screwdriver, you can temporarily shot circuit the pins on the mobo to power it up.

This should determine if there is a shot or a mobo problem.

Never use any liquid other than isoprophl alcholhol to clean a cpu. It dries up very quickly. If there was any trace of liquid in the cpu, that could easily fry it.

Do you have another cpu to try?

Again though, reseat the video card and the ram in 1 slot. It is more than likey either the cpu, video card or ram.

Agreed - this is ALWAYS the first thing I do if I have a problem with an install. I sit the mobo on a cardboard box (the box the mobo comes in is perfect). You can just touch a screw driver to the two power switch pins on the header to turn it on.

You should download the the manual for the mobo from the manufacturer's website and look up the beep codes.

In general, if it's giving you beep codes then the CPU is probably okay. The CPU needs to be working for BIOS to even run the beep code diagnostic program.

90% of the time a beep code problem is video related. You got another video card you can try? Even an old PCI?

With FP and Exec. and blade... But, on another note... Is it a siren noise or a beep? If it's a siren, it could be a dead CPU (had an ASUS board w/Phoenix bios that would do that w/dead CPUS) if it's just regular beeps, I'm not sure.. BUT! I also had a PSU one time that the connector to the mobo didn't fit or stay seated quite right and it would power on for 2 seconds and shut off.. Never got any beeps though.. You might try another PSU too and see if that makes a diff.. GL eGo

make sure all the lead wires from the case -that connect to the mb are on the right pins and are facing the right direction !
if power switch connector is reversed on the mb it will not fire up or start depending on motherboard and give you that beep ! or any of the other pins for that matter !
and a week power supply could do it to !

Have you cleared the CMOS? Out of the few nforce systems I have built I remeber a couple refusing to boot/giving and beep code after tinkering with ram/fsb speeds. Clearing the CMOS was the only way I could get them to boot afterwards.

Maybe your power button is getting stuck? I know I ran into that problem before. Since ATX style power buttons are only suppose to short a few pins out for a few seconds, a stuck button would cause the system to power off again. Not the most likely cause though. Just thought I'd throw the idea out anyway.
