laptop question

Post by marscheese »

alright, well, I go to college in one month, and I bought a crap load of hard drives a while back. I just recently (like within the past 2 weeks) put them all in my comp. Well, now I want to copy all of DVD's to my comp, so I'm not taking like 100 dvd's w/ me. i got a great program for ripping DVD's (thanks to the PCA LAN ;) ), and now I have my comp and my LAN rig pretty much ripping DVD's all day. My question is this, because I want to be sure to get all of my DVD's ripped before college, I was wanting to throw in another computer in the whole thing. When ripping, the CPU usage goes up to 98-100%, would it be bad to run my laptop for an extended amount of time (being like almost all day) w/ that? **sorry for all the background stuff, but hey...maybe it was needed ;)

don't do it on a comptrash... :p
(i'm half serious with that if you have anything below an armada-series notebook)

keep your laptop cool. raise the back end of it up using something... rubber feet, something... i suggest giving it 1/2" to 1" clearance for good heat ventilation. put the spacers only on the back corners of the notebook. try not to cover up any part of the bottom by using something big (ie. a sock) that will just constrict the air flow underneath the unit. have your lcd flipped OPEN but have your screen saver turn off the display while you're ripping. a lot of notebooks will benefit from this as they actually pass heat through the keyboard and/or by the monitor. turning the display off will save you a little extra heat as well. good luck
