Feds warn of broad Internet attack...

The Patch: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treevi ... 03-026.asp

I'm no fan of MS security patches since lately they seem to cause more problems than they fix, but this is a serious one. I installed it on my server 2 weeks ago and had no problems with it.

Sounds like a bad one, i better had patch my rigs up when i get home, especially my server since it sits above the hardware firewall. Man with as many holes as M$ stuff has in the last three years, i almost think m$ coders are the one writing the exploits in order for job security- there will always have to be code written that way

Headed that way to get the patches.

Saw this,
Affected Software:

Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Services Edition
Microsoft Windows 2000
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003

Not Affected Software:
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

So, does this mean for once win 98se is safe from something? Right now the only system online is running win 98 SE! BUT it is networked to my other systems and is an important one for the wife.

So what to do, is it safe? Take it off line and put on one of the others with 2k?
Go buy ME (NOT AN OPTION!, just a joke!)

Windows is starting to look like the fife and drum guys, so many patches and bandaids!

Also I noticed "FBI spokesman Bill Murray" was mentioned. I wondered why I hadn't been seeing many Bill Murray movies come out lately, now I know I geuss. He moved into another line of work ehh :)

I'd go to Windows update and see if the patch is listed (go my the "Q" number). If it's there download it - if not, don't sweat it.

Did anyone's computer suddenly shutdown or give an error message about buffer overrun? If so thats what happened, a big stupid Microsoft security vulnerability. I know several people that didn't apply this patch and got hit by the worm :O
