Well actually I have modded imports and raced or crewed for many from the lowly VW Bug up to the killer 962 so please don't tell me what I do or do not know.
For 5 grand you will not be running 11s in a VW unless you have the W8. I have looked into what I can do to my Jetta. Hey look at that I own an import!!! And to run 11s you will need more than a FI. You will need suspension work, tires, driveline, and finally the FI.
For 5K its EASY to get a Fox Body into the LOW 11s/HIGH 10s. Just pick up a Vortech and run a #15 pulley and maybe some Trick Flow or Fox Lake heads.
Plus the part are a LOT cheaper.

actually... most of them kinda sucked. they're WAY TOO heavy, steering isn't pinpoint, and unless you've got a v6 turbo, you're looking at an under-powered car for the weight. eclipses are lighter, has better steering, but are even more under-powered. the lancer evo is a one hell of a machine - small package, faster than shit after exlax, and handles great. unfortunately it suffers from mitsu's poor choice of interior materials. a comparable WRX STI, while being a lil bit more pricey, has a nicer interior and the little fit and finish items around raise the bar ever so slighty over the EVO.
i like the current stang, the new one looks pretty cool; i just don't like the fog lamps on it. they make the front end look weird. the shelby concept is bitchin'... we'll have to see how far they go to neuter it for actual production.

Depends on what it's for...
2nd car, definately the Mustang, but it has to be a convertible w/ a V8 and a stick shift.
Daily driver? Umm... which one's got the best resale?
Lets see... tiny trunks on all of 'em. I know the 'stangs back seat sucks, G35s probably does too. The RX-8's might be ok, seeing as it's got extra doors of a sort. I'd have to test drive them. See which one handles Chicago potholes the best. I live in the city, so that's much more important than how well it takes corners. Hope the salesman doesn't mind me finding a nice rough patch of road and slamming a brand new car over all the bumps at full speed, then either leaving or buying the other one on the lot...

Spindle collector. FC-AL 9x18x10k; SCSI 3x36x15k, 1x18x10k, 1x73x10k, 1x9x10k, 1x18x7.2k; IDE 1x120x7.2k, 1x40x5.4k, 1x9x7.2k, 1x6.4x?, 1x2.5x?
No BMW's in the lot? I'd much rather pick up a used M3 or something than any of those cars, but, if I had to choose, I would probably get the G35 coupe. Something with a real suspension! The Rx8 is decent, too, though. Who knows what the new mustang will do. I'd wait to drive one of those.

Infiniti - actually the nicest car of the bunch, but way too yuppified for me.
RX-8 - I like it because its kind of funky and it rips enough for me not to care if the Infiniti is actually faster. Even if Ford owns Mazda, Mazda makes good cars.
And Mazda = Ford Chassis designs not Mazda don't be fooled. I'm not real hot on most Ford Cars minus the Mustang but i'd take a F Series over any of the shit the other 2 can come up with right now.
Racer X 50, it was a semi-pro team that was a privateer, a friend of mine drove the car. The team was called Cole Bros Racing, but like I said; that was a long time ago. I'll dig up a pic and scan it someday soon, it was built from a worn down barebones racecar and it was nice when we got down with it - it was around 1988-90.
Hey Pred, it was nice to see you at vortex - didn't know you were there also. I've been around VW's for quite some time and you can mod them to the nth degree, I still love 'em but I'm parting out my last one now. I had a hail storm basically wreck 3 of my cars last year, my 1990 Audi 100, 1988 Fox Wagon (modded of course, hell of a fun car), and my wife's 1995 Cabrio. The Audi was totaled, my Fox Wagon was totaled, and my wife's Cabrio had $4600 damage on it. Since then I have (don't hit me Pred...) gotten a 2001 Ford Taurus SES and a 2001 Ford Focus SE Wagon, and I have to say that I've been extremely happy with them. I was actually surprised at the quality of them.
One of my hobbies is to go out and test drive anything I'm interested in, and in part because I've been accused of changing cars more than my underwear...this is of course not true, but some people think so - including my best friend. I guess I figure if I can't be Jay Leno and own every car at the same time, I can at least keep changing cars and own them separately one at a time...hehe
