Slave Drive

Post by Amanderene »

Anyone know why I cant delete any files on my slave drive??

An error message comes up that says "cannot find specified path, make sure you specify the correct path"

Am I going to have to format? Or is there something I can do about it?

Are you sure the files haven't been already removed and it's just a mostly empty folder? I've had that happen before. Right click on them, then left click on properties to see how much space they are taking. If it isn't much then they may already be removed.

its because you keep on oppressing the drives with the "slave" name. We have fought into the 21st century, fought to be viewed as equals. We shall no longer be called the "slave drives", we shall henceforth be known as "master drive of the middle IDE connection"

Did you try disconnecting the drive, restarting, then shutting down and reconnecting it?

sorry I am of no help

It isnt just one folder it is the WHOLE drive.....it is an 80GB hard drive and only 10GB are free...and I cant delete ANYTHING from it lol. it is driving me crazy. I have tried disconnecting the drive and restarting, and also trying to delete in safe mode...but nothing seems to work.

Nothing is write protected or read only....they are archive files.... it is all so strange, but more so just a pain in the neck....

Have you run a full virus scan?

If you don't have one this one is free and it's a good one.

Run scandisk. Otherwise I'd try as ego suggested and try safe mode.

Archives?

You mentioned that they are archives.. Do you mean this is where you save files? Or do you use it for backups and such? If you use it for back ups, perhaps the backup utility is keeping tabs on them and since they're in use you cannot delete them.. I could be wrong. I had a file on my desktop one time that I could not delete for the world. Come to find out, I had it mounted as a DVD so it was in use. I had to unmount it before I could use it. So maybe, if you're using a back-up util you'll need to disable or shut it down.. GL eGo

done
I don't know what went wonky with the drive...
but I moved everything to a folder on C:\ then I formatted the D:\ drive
moved everything back and was able to delete things just fine...

and also in doing that I reformatted the C:\ drive and reinstalled Windows... this time using Win98 SE first then upgrading to WinXP Pro... and this fixed the audio problem I posted about here http://www.pcabusers.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=31514

so thanks for the help guys :)
