Installing a Kill Switch in a 2000 Corolla?

Post by Walleye »

Well, it has come to my attention that i need a kill switch for my car.

My sister quite literally stole it today. somehow there was a 3rd set of keys set around. I gave the second set to my brother, and i keep the first set.

The reason she stole the car, is that since she's older, she thinks she's entitled to it. She owns a 95 ford explorer, and she crashed it into another car. this is the 3rd car she's pretty much destroyed, in 7 years of driving. the explorer isnt completely totaled, but it'll be several thousand worth to fix it. (2 other cars are the 84 camry, and a 99 corolla)

So, she thinks that because she's out of a car for the meantime while hers gets repaired, she thinks she owns mine. We offered her other options already. an 84 camry, and a 96 windstar. but no, she has to have the 2000 corolla.

I have to do something to keep her from stealing my car continually. I'll start pulling the distributor or doing some other cutoff, till i can get this installed. but i want to do something.

I have all the documentation and everything for the car, and i will probably be putting the kill switch in the door map pocket. (i dont keep anything there anyway. ) if not, then i'll locate it under the dash. I have the pinouts, the electrical diagrams, factory service manuals, etc. So... what should i tap into for the kill switch? anyone have any suggestions on what kind of switch to use? how much current should the switch be able to handle?

that causes an issue though, he will need to reset the radio ( the pre-sets ) every time though

I listen purely to CD's. radio dont matter.

someone on another forum said the fuel pump driven by relay, inline switch before relay.

i gotta find it on my wiring diagram.

he also said i could find the fuel pump fuse and pull it from the driver side kickpanel. that's pretty easy to do.. i'd confirm it, but i dont have the car here right now. if that is true, then i can easily put in an inline switch exactly where i wanted it in the first place. but i still dont know how big a switch i'd need. if i can get away with an ordinary toggle switch, that'd be great.

yeah, pulling a fuse would be simple too

There should be a few that would cause the car not to run

yea pull the fuel pump fuse thats gonna be the easyest way to disable the car. As for the kill switch.. here is a good ideal if you dont smoke...

Take and unhook the cigerett lighter from its power source... then take the fuse out for the fuel pump and add wire to it and extend the to wires to the cigerett lighter. hook them up (make sure the collar of the lighter is not grounded) and your all done. the fuel pump will not run unless the lighter is pushed in. and the lighter should not pop out cause the pump wont draw enuff power to heat it up. Also so it wont heat up you can pull all the crap out of the lighter section and fill it up with lead or solder. then when your done just pop the lighter out and the car is disabled.

Hope this helps.

Not a bad idea pugs. But wouldn't the car run for a little while on the pressure the pump had already biult up and leave her stranded? Then he would have to go rescue it.. or worse, shed have it towed to a carage and really baffle the mechanics. LOL
I would disable the starter. That way she can't run your battery down trying.
Not sure how things work these days but there should be a small wire that goes to the solenoid and lets the starter do its thing. NOT the the big starter cable of course! If you can find that wire any toggle shoud work.

Done this lots of time it is easy. Just splice a switch into the low voltage wire going to the coil. Mount the switch wherever you want. Turn it off the car wont start, turn it on and drive away. Also a good anti theft tool.

if its carburated it will run for about 20 seconds on a full bowl. fuelinjected should run about 3 seconds if it even starts.

I know sombody that did the cigrett lighter kill and another that put a push on push off button behind the door pannel so you couldent even see it. you just pressed on the door by the window crank and when i clicked you started and went. it was slick.

There's no exposed ignition coil either, unfortunately.
