n00b help: new motherboard help PC run smoother?

Post by Koreanbeefcake »

i meet the requirements on all the games i play but it is still choppy. my cousin told me to buy a new motherboard because he upgraded his motherboard and cpu and everything is awsome and now needs just a new video card.

right now im at:
1.7 processor speed
512 ram
ATI 128mb 9800 pro vid
have about 4 gigs of space left out of 26
i have cable internet too...
anything i missed?

right now all i really play is battlefeild 1942 and GTA vice city and basically thats it.
any help?

Your system don't look too bad . What cpu is that 1.7 ? Is it an Athlon , P4 , or celeron ?

earlier P4's would throtel back for no reason. i think it might have been fixed with a bios update.

do you have the latest bios for your mboard?

please save yourself if you dont know what a bios is then im pretty sure you shouldnt try to update it, afterall if you go wrong then you dont have a computer and you would need to buy a new MB.

You would really need to know the type of motherboard you have in order to update the bios. Bios updates come from the manufacturer, ie...Asus, Abit, Chaintech, Intel.

If you still want to update your bios, find the motherboard manufacturer by opening up your case, and looking at the motherboard for any markings. My Asus actually says "Asus" on the board. You can then go to the Asus website, look for your motherboard and get the bios update. Follow the instructions for the flashing, and you should be good to go.
