I would think that your rear brakes are gone in a matter of 30 seconds or so spinning the rears that fast while holding the brakes, unless they were removed.Originally posted by Viperoni
Actually it's fairly harmless. Because he has to step on the brakes a bit to hold the truck, the rear brakes end up wearing out faster than normal, since they're being applied but the tires are still spinning.
When I was showing my son to drive, he forgot to release the emergency brake, and after a couple of minutes, I noticed a burning smell so we stopped the truck to investigate. As soon as I got to the back of the truck, I knew it had to be the brakes and verified that the emergency was on. The damage was as follows:
1. The drums overheated and had to be replaced since they were out of round.
2. The shoes were also overheated and warped.
3. The brake fluid overheated and had to be completely replaced since it boiled.
After labor, I spent $250 on that mistake.
