Question about Video and FPS

Post by Rezillo »

Check this out. here is the short version. I upgraded and am still getting the same FPS as before. 22-30FPS Turning down all the graphics will NOT make them go any higher! With either card!I can't firgure it out. Both are new installs of WINXP Pro and the game Star Wars Galaxies.....look at the specs from before and after and see what you can come up with....

BEFORE
mobo: HP FIC Am35 4x AGP with 64mb AGP apeture
Proc: Athon xp 1.6 no OCing
Ram: 2gb ecc registered pc2100
Video: Geforce FX5500 DDR 128
HD: Maxtor 250 ATA

AFTER

mobo: Asus A7N8X-X 8x AGP with 512-256 AGP apeture ( i tried 128, 256, 512 not much of a difference)
Proc: Sempron 2.0 standard no OCing 166x12
Ram: 2gb Unbuffered pc2100

Well your RAM is holding you back for starters. It's only PC2100 so you're not running your memory closk as fast as it could.

Did you install the motherboard chipset drivers (nForce drivers?). You'll get poor performance from the generic drivers that WinXP installs.

also check your video card settings.. turn off Vsync.. AA and AF.. just set them to OFF.. you'll get jaggy's.. but I would rather have jaggy's than crappy Frame rates..

your what they use to refer to as "CPU Limited" a Sempron 2.0 is not "feeding the card fast enough.

You can try overclocking your processor but I don't think it will make any difference.

$5K? You could buy two nice gaming systems for $5K - three if you built them yourself.

Thats my Limit...doesn't mean I have to spend it all. But I am getting all new everything. All the bells and whistles, speakers, wireless headphones, complete sytem ground up ... you get the picture.. I have to start looking for whats going ot be out down the road... its hard to see all compents that far. Sure we can see where video cards and procs are going, but a month before I will be scrambling.....lol
