WTB: Cheap PC100/133

Post by normalicy »

I'm just helping out my friends Mom. She's got a PII 350 & 64mb & wants to run WinXP. Well, obviously, that won't work. So, I'm gonna try to beef up the ram & see what happens. I don't know if the motherboard will support 512mb sticks, so I'd rather look at 256mb sticks. I wanna get 512 total for around $30+/-. I know it's cheap, but I'm not charging her & I'm already taking a hit by giving her a better processor (550mhz).

Check out my FS Thread. I have a 1.3 GHz Gateway with XP Pro and 512 MB of RAM for $150, shipped. You'd pay more than that for the XP Pro from a retail store!

If all she does is surf the net, I seriously doubt that she would EVER need more computer than this one!

She doesn't have any money to upgrade really (she got the computer for free from her work), thus why I'm just making it work. I'm sure that it will only be getting internet usage, so I'm just wanting the ram for the most part & I've already got the XP for her.

I remember when 550mhz & 128mb was a ton for internet surfing & 1.3ghz & 256mb was blazing for games. However, that was before the XP hog was rolled out. Heck, I'm real proud of my computer now & I'm sure it'll struggle with Vista.

So, anyhow, I guess I'll wait for nitro237 to check his stuff out & if that falls through, I'll go to DaMaN (he-he).

Sorry, all I have is several sticks of 128MB. If that would help LMK. You can have a couple sticks for the cost of shipping.
