X800 line of cards have DVI issues with certain LCD's?

Post by Buzz »

Hi all!

I just bought a new LCD... finally... just to find out it has issues while connected to the DVI port of my Sapphire X800XL card :(

What happens is i get NO picture while at post screen or in DOS. So image is lost until windows has loaded.
This does not occour with the D-SUB connection.

I have tested another monitor, Viewsonic one, on this X800XL card, and this LCD has no problem with DVI.

I have tested my new NEC on a another X800 series line of card, a Sapphire X800GTO, and i get the same issue as described with the X800XL.
No image until windows loads when using DVI.

I tried the NEC on a Sapphire Radeon 9700 and a X1600XT card and it WORKS on BOTH of these cards.
Image all the way!!

So, i'm thinking there must be som issue with the DVI signal on the X800 series with certain LCD screens?

Anyone else had this issue?

Only time I ran into this is when I hooked up a pair of 20" Viewsonics to a Dell workstation with a dual head card (NVidia Quatro card I believe). Never resolved it to my satisfaction, but the client didn't care if we used VGA or DVI so we just went with VGA. Annoyed me though.

I never new that. Makes me glad I bought a 19" CRT instead.
My main reason is I wanted the flexibility of running games at
1024x768 to 2048x1536, depending on what framerate I get
on my system.

Nuby, you can change your resolution with an LCD, and a modern LCD won't look any worse at a resolution lower than it's native res.

I was looking at the 19" LCDs which had a top resolution of 1280x1024.
