keys, eh zyfer? hehe. no keys with this one! pretty strange to get used to not having keys. it's just a proximity fob...no key holes in the doors or anything.

So what happens if the car battery dies? I'm sure the engineers thought of this. I've always been curious how you would get in.

I work for Safro's other Lexus store, North Shore location. I've heard that most Lexus dealers are alot nicer than ours but I doubt that they're remodeling. That'd cost money

......as for the key in case of a dead battery, the metal key part separates from the fob and inserts into the "normal" receiver part under the rubber cover on the door handle. You then hold the fob up to the start button and it'll start, even with a dead remote battery. So yes, they thought of all that.

lol...i don't even know where the key goes in the door. it must be under the rubber lock button thingy.

Looks great! What did you use on it? I've been partial to Zaino products. About 2 weeks after I bought mine I went the wax it and the wife asks why. She thought the dealer would have already put a coat on it. I don't know what the dealer used on mine but it came off as a yellowish residue during claying.

i used:

zaino clay (z18 i believe)
optimum compound for the polishing step w/ my porter cable 7424 (i typically finish cars off with menzerna FPII...but this color/paint didn't really need it and i was lazy)
sealed with zaino z5 (x2) and topped w/ z8 the next day

there was zero protection on the paint when i washed it. the dealer put nothing on it (which is fine by me since i would redo it anyway)...no beading whatsoever during the wash.

i have a garage full of different waxes, sealants, polishes, etc. i will top it with collinite 845 wax after the next wash...that's my favorite wax (ridiculously durable stuff).

I've never used the Z8. I typically: clay-Z6-Z5-Z6-Z2Pro-Z6. I fine the Z6 in between coats really enhances the shine and make the next coat easier to apply. The Z8 on yours looks great.

hmm, ok, all the ones I have driven with the "rubber button" it was just that. But that was only Nissan and Toyota, not a Lexus

Did you ever remove those "buttons" on the LF door handle? I have to believe that they're covers as a button would be otherwise useless, no reason for it.
Volvo's are the same, remotes have metal key inside.
If there was no mechanical key whatsoever and your remote battery failed, which happens, you'd then be SOL. I can't believe that any manufacturer wouldn't think of that.

Your not alone. I have no idea either.

Maybe we need a new thread on car care and what people do, how often, with what products and tools.
