Ok.. Don't think of me as cold hearted or anything like that.. But here's two sides to the current situation for you to think about.
Side #1 the more favored side..
Ignore your Dr.'s recommendations and go be with your Dad, time is precious and apparently he has little of that left. Enjoy the time that you can spend with him as much as is possible given the situation and try to keep him comfortable and happy.
Side #2 the less favored side..
Stay at home like your Dr. has asked you to. In doing so, you won't have to have the memories of him in his present condition and the waning away that you will experience if you are there. Often the only memories that people hang on to towards the end of ones like as is such in this situation are the bad ones..
I know that Side #2 seems selfish, but my mother has been going through things these last few months with lung cancer and emphysema and I'm glad that my sister wasn't here to experience them. I wouldn't want anybody to go through what I had to endure for those three months, and they're memories that I'd rather not have, but I spared others from them. She's now back home, but things were taking a turn for the worst. Just think about those things and decide what you want to do.
Again, not trying to be cold hearted, just opening up both sides of the situation..

My sympathies. If he died in the comfort of his own home, you couldn't ask for anything better. I wouldn't wish anyone to die in a hospital nowadays.

Thanks to my Friends for your well wishes and prayers. My father lived a good life. He was one of 11 children that grew up on a farm in Canada. He was raised by the old values that I try to emulate in my daily life and will continue to do so. He left us with no regrets and as his last couple of months were spent in pain - His pain is over. For that much, I am thankful.
This is mainly to let you know that I am alright. C

My condolences Mr C...
As you know, I just lost my wife to cancer just 2 weeks ago and we buried her one week ago in California. Today was to be our anniversary, so it was tough going today. I do want to take this time to tell you how sorry I am that you lost your dad and that I hope you and your family are coping with your loss. I will pray for your family and that you find the strength to get through this, and hopefully the fact that he is no longer in pain will bring you comfort.
Please make sure you take care of yourself as well, as it is easy to let go of that as well.
