don't you just love how they state $19.95 for a oil change with filter , up to 5 quarts of oil and they tap off all fluids, do a so many point inspection like 27.
but when you get the final bill its always $5.00 or more plus tax
even when you don't have more then there basic service.
why dont they just say it be lets way $23.99 plus tax and include shop supplys ,other services extra.
i do enjoy it when i go to these places and they go to check like the air filter on my work truck and they guy go's and checks the air filter and finds its a royal pain in the butt to reinstall the housing it sits in. and its clean and don't need to be replace anyway.
now the place by my house is starting a new service they asked me about my brakes and said there running a specal right now on brakes. im thinking i really not going to go there to have my brakes done ever.
i also have a friend who owns a servce center and we just go there . i do 98% of the repairs myself with his asst for free.
i would of dont my oil change there but its 1 hour away and it cost me about the same for parts as i payed to sit in my car and not get my hands dirty any way.

Honestly, why not take it to a dealer? All the dealers around here don't charge much more than the Jiffy Lubes anymore for a 30 min oil change, and at least the mechanic at the dealer knows what he's doing. The kids that do oil changes at the "Jiffy Lube" places can barely walk and chew gum.
I take my vehicles to the GMC dealer around the corner - they will change the oil on any make or model and they charge $23.

I dont know, I have never trusted taking a car to a mechanic. Unless is some ultra rare thing that requires tools that are expensive, I will try and do it myself.
Some things you just cant do at home. Like alignments. well that's the only one i can think of now, but there are a few others that I just don't have the tools needed to do properly.

I do all of the basic maintenance on my car myself. Oil especially, because no one around where I live will use the brand/type of oil I want for a reasonable price. If you buy the oil yourself, most of these places actually charge -more- to put it in. Ridiculous.
I recently had to take my car in to get the plug wires/coil packs replaced because I couldn't really do it myself. You just can't reach them. But now the fuel pump is on it's way out, and I intend to replace that with a friend who's done it before and has the tools.
I also just recently swapped out the AC Compressor, Accumulator and various other AC parts myself. Saved $600 doing it. Yes, it was a pain, you had to take the dash apart, front bumper off, etc etc. But with a Haynes manual and a few days of work, my AC blows colder than my friend's 2010 Accord.
