New Laptop

Post by MAC »

I'm thinking about getting a new laptop. Besides Dell, where is a good place to shop for one? I'm thinking about one with a 17" screen, Intel i5 processor, Nvidia video card and 500 GB (or larger) hard drive.

Thanks,

HP used to be decent. You may want to have a look at ASUS also.

Well, I think I am going to get the following from Dell:

Inspiron 17R

Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit, English (I have a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit at home)
2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2430M processor 2.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.00 GHz
8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
750GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M (128-bit) 1GB
Blu-ray Disc (BD) Combo (Reads BD and Writes to DVD/CD) with Roxio Creator 2011
Integrated 1.0 mega pixel widescreen HD Webcam
17.3" HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Display with TrueLife™
Integrated 10/100 Network Card
HD Audio 2.0 Support SRS™ Premium Sound
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1030, 1x2 bgn + Bluetooth
48 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

I can get this one for $699.99 plus tax.

What do you think of this laptop?

My mother in law just bought an Acer, she loves it and a hell of a lot cheaper.

that Dell looks decent for the price with the BluRay. My wife got a similar one - smaller screen - this year and it does just about everything with no issues.
