car rental travel advice!

something I never thought of till last night. as I said earlier I was rear ended in a rental car. not my fault at all as I was stop at a light.
! remember who my insurance coverage we with . so I looked up the insurance company up on my cell and had to call it in .also the cop needed to talk to them .
here were the problem came up .
there computer didn't pull me up .by my name ,home address or phone no. so Monday I'm going to have to call my agent. the insurance company did fill out a report and give me a claim no. but because I didn't have my proof of insurance she was unable to pull up the policy. took a lot longer on the phone because of me not having the policy no.
so from now on when I'm traveling I'm going. to add one more thing to my wallet a copy of my proof of insurance. also I'm lucky it happen here in Florida . Florida is one of only a handful of states that have no-fault auto insurance laws ,Michigan to. (what this means is his insurance company has to pick up the bill for the repairs ) so always have a copy of your proof of insurance on you it could save you a lot of time .

I've been rear ended a couple of times and here, it's always the fault of the person who rear ends the other car and so, I've never contacted my insurance co. for that as the other guy had to pay.
With most insurance companies, if they know that you were in any type of accident, it's likely to effect your rates just because you were there and their logic is that if you weren't there, it wouldn't have happened.

I was rear ended ~4 years ago and the owner of the vehicle that hit me (I was at a red light and unable to move forward to escape them) was very motivated to pay me outside of insurance. it may have had something to do with the actual driver being an illegal immigrant, couldn't speak English, and without a license. She was the guy's "nanny" and he wanted to make sure his insurance didn't know she was driving.

my auto insurance is handling everything for me. they are going to have the guys insurance company pay the bill. im not going to be paying a dime . also talked to the rental company and was informed that they will go after his insurance company. when I turn the car in they will take pictures of the damage and make copys of the reports the police filed.
I need to fill out a report that's in the glove box and turn in the keys.
forgot also top off the gas tank. this was normal before I got hit.

went and turned in the car. this got interesting they charged me $590.oo deductible onto my credit card . the thing here is I only have like $480.oo on the card. I called my credit card today and informed them of what's going on . been told even if they do try and push the $590.00 it would be rejected .

update as of right now !
the insurance company waiting for the renal company (sixt) to return paper work to them to pay out on this claim ( allstate ) . Im so glad I called allstate direct today as they were going to send Handover insurance (my insurer) the check for the $631.30. I had to pay out of my pocket when I turned the car back in. now its all waiting on sixt . I also spoke to sixt and the main office has not been given any paper work from the local tampa office yet . the girl at the main office said she will contact the tampa office and call me tomorrow . at this point it maybe a month before I see a check for the money we have payed out . ( also my credit card company did pay the $630.30. after I was told that wasn't going to happen by them.)

thought I update this thread after 2 months . im still screwing with it. today I had to email over a copy of the police report to the woman in charge at the rental car claims department . seem as do the local branch office of sixt rental car in tampa just drop the paper work or getting the car repaired .all they cared about was getting my $590 .00 extra . seeing the car was road worthy so the bumper had a major slash and puffed out on the passenger side. also seeing the car belonged to a south Carolina office . but I keep pushing its my money that's tied up at the moment in not going away !

beleave it today I got a request E-mail from the rental car company asking for the Insurance companys name and the claim number !
I guess I will see a check one of these days !

more update - got a email from the rental company Thursday that paperwork has been filled out and mailed to Allstate. yesterday I called Allstate and was informed they also got informed paperwork was mailed last week by rental company. I was also reassured that they have approved me for a reimbursement of all the funds I have payed out. ($$$ charged by the rental car company). they also verified my mailing address so when the papers arrive the check is sent to the right address. if no check by Monday I will be calling back to Allstate. (lesson learned here is buy the extra rental coverage if under $12.00 per day. ) I had a 14 day rental and for the $150.00 extra it would of cost me . it would of been well worth it then go though all the BS this has been to get a refund of my money . not sure but think i can declare on this years tax's any over charges we got from the credit card company for being over limit when they payed the extra fee. after being told by them they wouldn't let us go over limit. funny also how when you call them the Credit Card company about accepting the charges they back peddle to cover there ass.
anyway i let you all know when I see my refund / reimbursement check from Allstate.

today i sent a EMAIL to the woman i have been dealing with at Sixt rental car. telling her what I have been told by the auto insurance company .that they have not received any info from them . about 2-3 hours later a received a reply .and in it had copys of all the papers she has sent to them. guess there was like $2000 plus possible more damage to the car.and untill the bumper is removed will they know for sure if there frame damage.so tomorrow i will be back making my call to Allstate Insurance to see if they have all the paper work .if not i will forward what I have. its been like 6 months this is bull sHIt
