Fix for Kindle not syncing last page read

Post by FlyingPenguin »

This has been a real annoyance for a long time. I read Kindle books on 4 different devices (an Android tablet, my phone, a Gen1 Kindle that's still going strong, and my Surface Pro).

These devices rarely agree on what the last page read is. My workaround, until now, was to always bookmark the last page I read because that always seems to sync seamlessly between devices.

I finally got on Amazon's support forums and I think I figured out what's going on - and it's stupid.

The trick is to always go to the home page in the Kindle app when you finish reading. That forces a last page position to be sent to the cloud.

Seems to be working so far. However I think it's stupid. I dunno about Windows, but in iOS and Android the Kindle app keeps running in the background unless you force close it, so I can't understand why the programmers couldn't set it up to update the last page when the app goes idle.

Anyway, if this has been a hassle for you, try it out.
