Anyone else notice that Amazon not collecting FL sales tax lately?

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Some items yes, some items no. And this is not medical supplies. I ordered an ITX power supply for a media center PC today, and they did not collect tax. I looked back through my orders and there's several they haven't collected, but some they have. Seems to have happened just recently.

Yeah that's over 8%.

Now it depends, I guess, which county they are applying the tax to. Fla sales tax is 6%, but my county (and most in Florida) add 1%. Some more. Amazon does now have several distributions centers in the state, and I wonder if they have to pay the tax for the county the center is located in?

However, I did a quick check online and, the highest one I could find was 7.5%, as of 2024 anyway.

I wonder if there's any way to ask someone over there?

Okay, since there is apparently no way to actually speak with customer support without major hoops, I asked their AI Rufus. This is what I got:

"Some invoices may not display sales tax for Low Value Imported Goods (LVIG) where tax is calculated, collected, and remitted by Amazon.com. You can view or print an invoice with relevant shipment and tax details in Your Orders."

Doesn't explain your tax overcharge though.

It's weird how there doing tax's on the items there selling .it may have to do with tax holidays we have here in florida and there computer programing . lucky for me I'm just passing along the cost to my clients . for the most part that is .

Well I just ordered $1600 worth of computer parts to build a friend some office PCs, and they did not charge me tax.

Florida tax holiday is 8/1 through 8/31. Computers and computer related accessories under $1500 are not taxed, so I guess all those parts are considered computer accessories :)
I guess in the future I'm shipping big computer purchases\parts to my place in Florida.
