Just started windows 2000 server classes, and it occurs to me that, *damn* W2k server is complex. I'll definitely need to do more fiddling and blowing-up of Win2k server than what class time allows, given lectures and all. So, I want to have 2 machines I can use at home for server practice.
I've got an option to get a pair of emachines, celery 600, 32 megs, 10 gig hard drives, case, floppy, keyboard, mouse, cdrom, modem, nic, etc., for $265 a pop. I'll prolly go with this if I can't find something else, but I'm thinking gee, I'd really like to use this as an excuse to try out a Duron CPU system as well. Possibly 2 if the price is right.
They don't have to be fancy; I don't really want cases, either, unless I can't avoid it, because I can get decent ones locally for $25 and avoid the shipping costs.
I'm on the lookout for:
Duron 700 +/- and a board to go with it. I do want to have an AGP slot on the board, and a couple of PCI slots if possible. I don't give a rat's ass about ISA. If it has LAN, Modem, sound, etc., built in (hell, even video built in is OK if there is still an AGP slot, and if the price is right I may even forego the AGP slot.) that would be great, especially if there are few expansion slots. All in one is a virtue here
I don't need any memory, I've got 512 megs of PC133 kicking around that will work fine.
I do need hard drives, preferrably the same brand and size, but that's negotiable. I'm hoping for around 20 gigs.
Oh, on RAM, though I have plenty, if you have some of that cheap stuff that only works with Athlons, in large size sticks (256 MB and up) I might go for that anyhow.
Summing up, here is what I need:
2 Durons, 700Mhz +/- 50mhz, with boards.
All-in-one boards preferred, but with agp slots. I hope.
2 20+ GB hard drives, preferrably same brand, size and model.
256MB and larger cheapo Athlon memory only, IF the price is good.
I'm looking to spend under $500 all in all, if I can. I'll peruse the PC show this weekend, as well, to see if I can get anything useful.
Any leads, would be appreciated, I need to get these built ASAP.
Thanks!
DMA
