Hey I just recently oc'ed my computer.
and hrm i wuz just moving up from 860 mhz to 900 by setting 100 x 9 with 1.750 Vcore voltage on my 750 mhz t-bird
and the computer posted up fine just when it started to load win 2k, it gave me the blue screen (Registry error, somethign about new hardware/software restart your comp if this is the first time u've seen this screen etc.)

so i rebooted and it didtn' werk. .. seems like win2k doesn't like ma 100 x 9. is this becuase it crasehd or soemthing..

so i reseted my proc to 750 again and it werked fine..

what's the rpobelm? i'd like to go higher i'll just skip 900 or osmething :)

thankxs

Have you tried setting the voltage higher ? That might help you if you haven't tried yet.

Yes higher than the stock voltage, we (oc'ers) find that proc's sometimes just need an extra bit of juice to get that few extra mhz out. Be forewarned though that increased voltage means increased heat (the worst enemy of an uberclocker) and you may need to create a better circulation to remove the heat from the proc and possibly your case as well. Once you do get it to run with the higher voltage you should do what we call burn it in.

Burning a proc in involves bringing it up in Windblows and using software to push the proc to 100$ usage for an extended period of time. This accomplishes 2 things, first it will tell you if your processor is stable with the current settings, second it will train your proc to become accustomed to these settings (the second is more a fancy some would believe but I have trained a dozen processors to the point where I could lower the voltages a notch or two and still run the same mhz).

Hope this helps. ;)

Sedul, you might also consider using window defroster repair paint instead of the pencil trick on your cpu. It's a more permanent and reliable fix, and you can get it for about 5 or 6 bucks in any auto parts store. The pencil thing tends to wear down after time and you have to redo it.

Yeah, I use the pencil trick still and I do have to redo it like once a month. I don't mind though but I would like to do it with window defroster paint because some people overclock higher with it.

Yeah go with a higher core voltage.

I overclocked my 1Ghz to 1.4Ghz using 10.5 x 133 and my voltage is 1.85 vcore and 3.50 io voltage. I need to up the io voltage as well because my ram nee a little bit more juice as well running at 133.

thx for all the replies people, just that when u see something like windows 2k poppin up a blue screen saying registry error,, what does it mean,. i'ts most likely related to the overclocking part.... so i guess i do need to up the juice

defogger paint.. hrm. u can use alcohol to rub that off rite?
pencil trick werked pretty good i guess for now i used B lead. more graphite

thankzx

I'm running W2K and when I overclock to high or don't have enough voltage and actually get into Windows and start opening stuff I get blue screens.

If you don't get those errors when running your cpu at regular clock speed then it's obviously because of overclocking.

thanks!!> i'ts just that hits is the first time i really oc'd antyhign and i'm afraid of damaging the contents on ma hd.
especially because since after i rebooted. my computer couldn't detect the ide devices on ma system. and so i remboooted again... and yeh

and setting th fsb higher. will set the pci clock higher increasing the chance of your peripherals gettin gmessed up?
What would be the upmost limit of setting the pci clock.. for ... say your harddrive .. mine is a maxtor 7200 rpm don't know if it likes it

If your scared of your other components crapping out at high fsb's then just up your multiplier setting and leave the fsb alone.
