Could it be ???

Post by Kazer »

Could I be having problems overclocking my Thunderbird because I unlocked it with a lead pencil ? As in not using something permanent ?

I used to run my 1ghz T-bird at 1.4ghz and then it started acting up in about a week, so then I lowered it down to 1.33Ghz. Started acting up in 2 weeks. Now I set it down to just 1.2Ghz just to be safe.

Does the new 1.33Ghz AYHJA Thunderbirds have the L1 bridges unlocked by default ? Just ordered one and it's on it's way. I don't want to have the same problem when overclocking it.

That could be a reason. I never had any problems with my pencil trick, but I used defogger, just so I could try and lower the voltage.

from what I've read, all the 1.33 gig chips are unlocked anyway. Also was reading that AMD is investigating that cutting the L1 bridges to lock them may be possibly, cutting down on the life span of them.

sethpa, that is great to hear. I won't have to do the stupid pencil trick anymore.

I just sold my 1Ghz thunderbird for $160 so I don't have to worry about it anymore.
