I need some of your opinions on a GF3

Post by Rayzor »

I'm ready to upgrade my 32meg Gladiac GTS for a Geforce3. The most I want to spend is between $340 - $380.
The cards I was looking at are the VisionTek, Prophet III, or Elsa's NV20.

I just read a review on the Absolute/3DPower Morpheus GF3 does anyone know anything about this card??

Whatta you guys think??

Thanks for the help,

Ray

PS: If this is not the right place for this thread, oops! sorry! my bad :(

I would recommend going with a cheap brand... PNY for one... check this out

Think about it this way, it has a lifetime guarantee and if their drivers are crap u can use nVidia's reference drivers.

<b>Mike89</b> shimmering problem thread: http://www.pcabusers.net/forums/showthr ... adid=11529

http://ns1.absolutemm.com/outrageous_fo ... readid=294

GeForce 3 videocards perform the same. They differ in the bundle and features they come with. Some GeForce 3 cards come with a DVI output while others do not.

The Morpheus comes with a great bundle: MDK2, NOLF, Dronez and another game you can choose. I chose Drakan. The Morpheus comes with a great cooling system and performs great in games I tested it with.

With the Radeon 8500 being released late next month it might be wise to wait until that it is released to consider it. It certainly is a more feature rich and advanced card than GF3. The big concern with Radeon 8500 is how good its drivers will be.

Plus there are rumors going around about a GeForce 3 Pro/Ultra being released. So by waiting you can find out if those rumors pan out and see if its in your price range.

There are several GF3 cards available for $300. Newegg for example has several GF3's by various manufacturers in that price category.

All GeForce 3 makers are just putting their name on top of the reference drivers. So you might as well use nVidia's reference drivers.

Rayzor,

I would hold off on the Morpheus GF3 for the time being, the card is being pushed hard by the Australian distributor resulting in a fair few people now owning this card. This card does have a 2D quality issue that the Manufacturer has been made aware of.
I do not own a Morpheus GF3 but i have tried assisting 2 friends that do to no avail, the manufacturer has not replied to any of our emails as of yet.

Hi Sean :)

{Using GF3} Dad is that you? :]

{puts in GF2} Hi Stryker :Q

I have gotten emails back from the tech guy in Sweden and Juan. Now I'm dealing with the tech guy in the US.

In my thread over at the Absolute forum it appears this card has problems with monitors using Diamondtron tubes. In particular NEC monitors that use Diamondtron tubes as <b>Mike89</b> and myself own. However this shimmering problem does not mainfest itself with all Diamondtron tube monitors. For example <b>Mike89</b>'s Morpheus was tested with a 22" Mitsubishi 2040U Diamondtron monitor and the problem did not mainfest itself. Also, the card was tested with a 19" Sony FD and the problem did not manifest itself. As you know Trinitron tubes are similiar to Diamondtron tubes.

One thing I'm puzzled about is why haven't I heard of other GF3 cards with same problem. Surely other GF3 owners use it with Diamondtron monitors and in particular NEC monitors.

Anyways this card is being RMAed for testing and if necessary will be replaced. The problem is what happens if a replacement board is sent back to me and it also has the shimmering problem?

Yep I sure can verify the Morpheus 2D problem. I recently send mine back for a full refund.

I find it interesting that the two GeForce 3 cards you didn't mention as being interested in, namely the Gainward and the Titan 3. These are the two cards that consistently have received the best reviews.

I just ordered the Titan 3. With the 2D problems I had with the Morpheus, I was convinced to get the Titan 3. The Gainward is also discussed by many owners as having excellent 2D image quality as well as being among the best overclocking, just a notch below the Titan 3.

I should be getting it soon. I will post my experiences with it then.
