Which Heatsink/Fan to get?
I've never had a socket-a system so I've never really looked into what heatsinks were out there. I was lookin' around at Directron.com and they had some as low as $8. Volcano II I think it was. Any good? I dunno... ...but it's cheap which is a plus
Just looking for something that would do a little above average at cooling but nothin' mongo or over $20.
What would you guys suggest?

What do ya'll think of this one?
http://www.directron.com/volcano6cu.html
Volcano 6cu. has a db level of 39 or somethin' along those lines. It's actually cheaper than the quieter one. $18 and I could always swap the 7000RPM fan with one of my quiet sunnon 60mm fans.

The Millennium Glaciator II is the best possible HSF solution for the Athlon if you want low noise and good cooling. It's more expensive than the ones you're looking at right now, however.
Also remember that the XPs run (15%-20%?) cooler than similarly clocked T-Birds.

and expensive as hell.
with what KDComputers has in stock and for under $30 I would get one of these:
CB-6L with 30cfm delta $20
TAISOL CGK742092 Sunon $28
GlobalWin WBK68 $18
CPC 30370 Sunon $26
those are the only under the $30 price tag that I would concider using o nany of my systems and dont have deltas screamer.

I just finished putting together my first Socket A system. After a love love affair with the Slot A's I thought it was time to move on. My new system is a A7V133 Rev 1.04 and a 1.2 ghz TBird. I must say this system kicks a$$ bigtime. I am not a OC'er, to old for that !
When I first put it together I just used a Coolermaster that I got for next to nothing. At the time of putting all together I didnt have any AS II so just used the thermal tape that came with the hsf. The hsf had a 5400 rpm 60mm fan and I tell you the Coolermaster sucked! I was getting idle temps of 50C and under a modest load 55-56C was easy to get! I did a very minor case mod, picked up a Volcano 6Cu+ hsf and a fresh tube oa AS II and idle temps are now around 39-40 C, pretty darn good if you ask me. I know there are better hsf's then the Volcano but it sure worked good for me and my setup. If you do decide to get a Volcano get the 6Cu+ model as it has a 7000 rpm fan. I may have went with another make if it was available locally but all I could get here in the higher end type hsf's was the 6Cu+. As I said I cant complain as it turned out very well for me.

I know Coolermaster is not known for highend cooling solutions but I was pleasantly surprised by their HCC-002 cooler (all copper, comes with 6800rpm fan, 38cfm), it trimmed off a few degrees compared to my Alpha pep66. It was $28.95 locally (Houston area). There is a review about it here One advantage of this cooler is the clip: very easy to put on!

Thanks for the help. I'm gonna end up and splurge since I'll have a little more money than I originally thought. So I'm gonna get my Athlon1600+ and cool it with the SK6/delta. I can get that hsf combo for $33 from newegg and if the fan is horridly loud, I'll swap it with a quiet sunon I have.
