Hey, i've parted out a Gateway 6400, and plan to keep the case for use in my new system (it's quite nice, with 120mm fans front and back, and sturdy as a tank).
Only one problem... the connectors for the front panel (power LED, HDD LED, power switch, etc.) isn't the standard bundle of loose wires with individual female terminated shovel connectors, which in turn get plugged into the appropriate pins on the motherboard. Rather, there is a nice IDE-style cable, with a 'block' style connector on the end (it looks kinda like a mini IDE cable).
Only one problem - it's designed for an Asus motherboard. The pins are set for the standard Asus arrangement, 2 rows of 10, kinda like this:
11 . . . . . . . . . . 20
01 . . . . . . . . . . 10
Bottom Row:
Pin 1 = NIC activity LED +
Pin 2 = Status LED +
Pin 3 = Status LED -
Pin 4 = SMI button
Pin 5 = Ground
Pin 6 = Power button
Pin 7 = Ground
Pin 8 = Chassis Intrude
Pin 9 = Reset button
Pin 10 = Ground
Top Row:
Pin 11 = Power LED +
Pin 12 = NIC Activity -
Pin 13 = Power LED -
Pin 14 = Key
Pin 15 = Ground
Pin 16 = NMI button
Pin 17 = +5V
Pin 18 = HDD access LED +
Pin 19 = HDD access LED -
Pin 20 = Speaker
Now, before you say, "well, just get another Asus board and it won't be a problem," i'm wondering if anyone knows of an adapter which will allow me to convert the IDE-type connector to the standard "bundle of wires and shovel connectors" type of arrangement that most cases use. The reason i'm asking is because i DON'T have an Asus board right now, but rather an MSI KT266 Pro. Obviously, the pin arrangement for the front panel connectors is not the same on the MSI, and the "mini IDE cable" in the Gateway case becomes a problem.
I will probably end up getting one of the Asus A7V266E boards, but don't want to have to pay through the nose to get it since it just got released a short time ago, and is still in somewhat scarce supply. I'd rather be able to use my current board for a bit, then make the switch at my leisure (and hopefully at a cheaper price).
Anyone know of such a beast as what i'm looking for (an adapter for such a purpose) and where i might be able to acquire it ?
