Powmax Power Supply?

Post by dadx2mj »

OK hopefully the last of my parts for my XP system will be here on Mon. and I am starting to think my Antec 300watt ps might not ccut it. So I go to pricewatch and start checking out power supplies. I see a Powmax 400watt for $49. They say they are AMD approved but I have never heard of them. Anybody ever use them or know anything about them? TIA

i've used two of the 300w one from the geeks on athlon systems with good luck - they seem to be solid - the +5 voltage was a little lower than my enermax 350w, but my 1.0 tbird ran fine at 1.1

Your 300W should be fine...I think.

dad the XP's use less power than the Birds do so you should be fine... My Antec 300 has powered my 1.33@1.53 flawlessly for 3 months now... It ran at 1.6 for about 2 months but i can't keep it stable anymore... I'm guessing that is partial cause of my 5v line is down to 4.65 most of the time and my Windows is probably gettin' screwed up... But on the Powermax not i haven't heard of them... I just ordered a Enermax 365P-VE FC from newegg... Was the cheapest place i could find them at including shipping. One thing you want to look out for is the combined Watts between the 5v and the 3.3. Most 400's are over 200W's on those 2 lines... Also the AMP's on each of those lines. I was looking at a cheap 350W supply before i got this enermax It had a rating of 150 across the 3.3 and 5 lines and really low AMP's. The more amps on those 2 lines the more powerful the PSU will be and the more stable it will be. Those 2 feed most of the computer all the Juice.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to hold off and see if this Antec will power everything Seems everyone is most concerned about the 5v line right now mine is running at 5.53v so maybe it will be ok but that is with a P3. Thanks again guys

damn i wish mine was above 5v's lol i opened it up too see if it had a pot to adjust but i couldn't find one :( My 5 is what is holding me back from a stable 1.6.... I actually got this processor to boot up at 1800 when i was playing around.. It started booting win2k then got errors out the booty and it rebooted... Wouldn't that be nice if it would do that all the time Stable! :D
